Professional Experience
At least 15 years of successful experience as a teacher and/or coach
Qualifications in and/or experience in athletic administration or administrative leadership
Experience with inquiry-based learning approaches
Experience with the relevant IB program (PYP/MYP/DP)
Experience of making a positive impact in areas of school priority
Professional Understanding and Knowledge
Understanding of how students think and learn in the 21st century
Ability to differentiate for different learning & language needs
Understanding of how technology impacts learning
Knowledge of how neuroscience informs current understanding of the learning process
Understanding of a broad range of assessment strategies relevant to a criteria-based curriculum
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning and overseeing athletic programs during the academic year. In association with the Heads of School
Obtaining necessary approvals for coaching allowance/s to be paid to the respective coaches through communication with the Finance/HR departments.
Identify and facilitate Professional Development opportunities for the coaching staff.
Recruiting, supervising and evaluating coaches to the highest standards and in alignment with the OIS mission and core values.
Delegating day-to-day operations of the program while maintaining effective overall supervision.
Evaluating the performance of individual coaches along with the Head of Division.
Ensuring that coaches uphold the rules, policies and protocols according to the guidelines outlined within the OIS Athletic Handbook.
Providing guidelines and criteria to student-athletes and parents for written communications/descriptions of program offerings, fixtures and achievements.
Working with the Head of Division to ensure policies, programs, objectives and goals are consistent with best practices locally and worldwide, and that they align with the school’s mission, core values and policies.
Supervising the School Nurses and working with the Facilities and Security teams to ensure that support services and emergency response systems are maintained at the highest standards to ensure the health and safety of the children.
Preparing, managing and overseeing the annual budget of the Athletic Department.
Responsible for development, coordination and implementation of collaborative programs, activities and competitions with local and international institutions as appropriate, including but not limited to the MISSL, DSO and MSSA.
Coordinating and organizing student travel.
Arranging officials/referees/judges and mediating disagreements between coaches/referees, if any.
Leading the scheduling and directing of tournaments and events.
Collecting records of each high school and middle school team for each season from the respective coaches.
Organising inventory of all uniforms and supplies and arranging for team photos.
Planning and executing special events for Middle School and High School student-athletes, including awards ceremonies. Ordering plaques, trophies and awards when needed, preparing event certificates.
Ordering materials and approving/supervising expenditure for each activity.
Representing the school at conferences, AD networking events (AD meetings) and any other activities involving the participation of OIS teams/groups.
Approving and monitoring the use of the school campus by external groups in coordination with the Facilities, Security and the Administration teams.
Collaborating with and supporting the logistics needs of the ECA programs within the school.
Overseeing communications with all constituencies while ensuring that all messages are timely, easy to understand, easily accessible, and supported by the appropriate levels of detail.
Responsible for developing and maintaining the Activities and Athletics calendars, daily bulletin announcements, etc
