Purpose of Role:


Lead the design and implementation of the new Learning & Development operating model that supports Weir’s strategic objectives.  This includes leading the end-to-end design of the global learning delivery function. Weir Business Services Learning organization will provide professional, innovative, value-added learning solutions and services to Weir.  This role reports to WBS HR Delivery Director.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Organization Development: Lead the design and implementation of WBS Learning Delivery function, managing change and stakeholders to ensure the adoption and on-going success of the learning team. Establish a Learning Delivery team that delivers high quality learning & development services to the business and is recognized for its expertise and capability. Regularly assess and refine the operating model based on feedback, insights and emerging trends in learning & development. Identify and develop the specialist skills and capabilities required for the learning function, providing guidance, coaching and training to enable learning professionals to excel within the new framework.
  • Process Management: Working with Learning Subject Matter Experts and the Hire to Retire Global Process Owner, ensure delivery of end-to-end process mapping, and transition of learning services (i.e. fit-gap analysis, change impacts assessment, knowledge transfer/ training on new processes).
  • Business Partnership: Work closely with the Centre of Expertise and Business Partnering teams in translating strategy into delivery plans and provide L&D. Work closely with outsourced partners who deliver learning & development administration and other learning services as required.
  • Learning Management & Delivery: Develop Learning & Development expertise and capability that would be typical of a global manufacturing business. Manage L&D budgets and vendors ensuring value-for-money and appropriate budget allocation. Create and manage governance structures, performance metrics and continuous improvement mechanisms that demonstrate the impact of learning on the business.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:


Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for candidates that have the ability to perform the objectives above.


  • Proven experience in leading and transforming global learning and development functions
  • Experience of implementing a L&D operating model within a Global Business Services environment would be highly desirable
  • Significant experience in all aspects of learning and development
  • Highly skilled leader in leading and developing cross-functional, diverse teams and manage complex projects from inception to completion
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.  Ability to influence and inspire others at all levels of the company.
  • Proficiency in learning management systems and learning technologies that are key to a modern, agile learning function.
  • Experience of managing a learning service/operation; governance; service level reporting; vendor management; quality assurance; continuous improvement.
  • Ideal candidate will come with proven history of delivering learning to diverse employee audience, including trades and blue collar.
