Job Description

State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) in India is seeking to hire a Head of Investments, SVP role based in their Bangalore office. This position will be a senior role both within the SSGA India organization as well as SSGA Investment organization. The person in this role will report to SSGA India Head and functionally aligned to SSGA Global Chief Investment Officer. They will work closely with Global Chief Investment Officer and her organization of Asset Class CIOs, Portfolio Managers, Traders, and Investment professionals. They will be a part of the leadership team of Global CIO. They will also collaborate closely with leaders in the Client Coverage Group (CCG), Chief Business Office (CBO), Chief Operating Officer (COO) organization locally/globally as well as with Finance, compliance, legal and risk teams as needed. Additionally, this role will oversee SSGA’s efforts towards market entry into India’s growing financial markets as well as manage the partnerships in the country once they are set up.


Key Responsibilities


  • Provide leadership to an investments team comprising of 100+ Investment professionals working on Investment Research, Investment Strategy & Oversight, Custom Client Solutions, Macroeconomics, Transaction Cost Analytics, OCIO and other investment related functions across all asset classes.


  • Work collaboratively with Asset Class CIOs and provide critical inputs into the various Investment strategies developed for global clients


  • Understand and drive team wide understanding of market and industry dynamics, keeping his/her finger on the pulse of what competitors are doing, how the market is shifting and what impact these dynamics should have on product and client engagement strategy both in the short term and long term


  • Drive innovation agenda through broad understanding of investment capabilities, client needs and competitor products


  • Act as key Investment Team interface with significant partners, joint ventures and other external parties critical to the development of industry-leading capabilities


  • Champion critical investment team business initiatives, including leveraging global footprint, technology and harmonized operating procedures more fully


  • Foster intellectual curiosity about macroeconomic and investment topics that are relevant to our global client base


  • Support mobility and high-performance culture as we transform the business


From India Market entry standpoint,


  • Develop and drive the vision for market opportunities in India, including assessing which capabilities to prioritize, developing the narrative for the team and engaging with key stakeholders and clients


  • Analyze the India market opportunities using third party research and proprietary methodologies and present findings to senior management


  • Meet with market regulators such as SEBI, GIFT city, RBI to get full understanding of local regulatory and licensing requirements


  • Interact with consultants and sell side analysts to get their perspective on the Indian market opportunities


  • Identify and engage potential partnership opportunities across the financial services and fintech spaces, navigate to a successful outcome


  • Manage these relationships over time


  • Collaborate with State Street Investment Servicing/Custody & Global Markets organization in India to drive any One State Street opportunities


  • Collaborate with Middle East and APAC Investments/Client facing organizations and leverage best practices


The successful team leader should possess high-end interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication capabilities, and deep expertise across a range of investment disciplines  In addition, the team leader should demonstrate real passion for investment management, intellectual curiosity and strong teaming skills.


Qualifications & Skills:


  • 20+ years of executive management experience in Investment Management


  • Advanced master’s degree (e.g., MBA, MS) preferably a CFA Charter holder


  • Global multi-jurisdictional experience required.


  • Deep knowledge of investing value chain, from research and idea generation to portfolio management, trading, trade settlement and ongoing servicing and reporting.


  • Deep knowledge of India as well as Global Institutional Asset Management & Wealth Management landscape


  • A minimum of 20 years of experience in managing, leading and developing global high performing teams focused on Investments related functions


  • Experience operating in a dynamic environment while managing various stakeholder needs and overall business risk factors


  • Ability to influence colleagues to support business goals


  • Strong commercial mindset and ability to break down barriers to achieve financial goals


  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, ability to execute independently yet also maintain strong team orientation


  • A strong history of building and leading high-quality teams and instilling in them a performance orientation, engaging and inspiring in them a sense of shared purpose and the collective skillsets needed to deliver stretch goals.


  • Effective at flexing and pivoting – be comfortable dealing with various changes and adapting to different circumstances.


  • Decision Making – ability to find data, insights, and proof points very quickly across the organization and synthesize to effectively make decisions to set future direction.


  • Multi-task – ability to effectively manage multiple priorities but also be able to focus on the most important deliverables of the moment through prioritization and holistic understanding of the broader COO and GA strategy.


  • Advanced communications skills - written/verbal - and interpersonal savvy (EQ) to build trusted relationships across the company.


  • Must be able to credibly engage and build relationships with C-level management.


  • An analytical, creative, and innovative approach to solving problems.
