We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Head of Financial Accounting – FTP Ledger Systems, SVP.


The role will come under Global Finance operations which is the backbone of Global Finance and has ~ 35% of Finance headcount across five locations NCR, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, China, HK, Mexico and Krakow.

GFO is transitioning to an organizational model underpinned by standardised and transparent processes, globally deployed, in a drive to transform our function and achieve greater operating efficiency and effectiveness.


Finance Systems Operations (FSO) & System Maintenance (SM) team plays a pivotal role in the upkeep of applications used by Finance & Risk users across HSBC Group. The team provides various services with a mix of technical and functional expertise like Change maintenance, Accounting Rule Maintenance, Reconciliations, Exception reporting, Incident management, Access Management, Reference Data maintenance, monitoring platforms / system performance and also acts as a helpdesk in resolving issues raised by users and provides training to users when needed on applications supported. Also identifying opportunities to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness and supporting the implementation of change programs across Systems.


Accounting Systems Operations and Systems Maintenance endeavors to draw synergies with E2E process between RTB and Change BAU activities being merged under one umbrella. This merger shall focus on driving tangible benefits and standardization across systems and processes, ensuring the right control framework, control rationalization and consistent operating model across regions. This merger will require managing service delivery as well as various transformation initiatives, collaborating with value streams to embed the strategy and regulating processes across Finance Operations.


Finance Transformation Platform (FTP) is a Group-wide Finance platform that provides a strategic solution for General Ledger and delivers reconciled financial dataset to support Financial Control and Reporting.FTP is also a primary source to deliver financial data to support downstream finance processes in Finance Cloud Applications such as Capital/RWA, Liquidity, IRRBB and Management & Business Reporting. There are currently two versions of FTP known as FTP v1 and FTP v2. United States is on FTP v1. All other FTP sites in UK, HK, China, Vietnam & Malaysia are on FTP v2.

The role holder will be:


  • Will be responsible for integrated delivery of a broad and complex Finance support model for FTP across all regions (320+ legal entities) covering support and system maintenance activities. 
  • Key point of contact for all Global Finance Heads, Regional Business, Change teams and IT Leads for FTP support and system maintenance. This role will not include FTP core accounting engine and data sourcing responsibilities.
  • Accountable to provide high level strategic advice which results in implementation of cost effective and efficient solutions to meet current and future requirements. 
  • The FTP system support and maintenance team will be a cross-functional/ skilled team that will work closely with IT and Change functions ensuring appropriate governance, robust controls, and embedment of standardised Incident Management framework. This role will not include FTP core accounting and data sourcing responsibilities.
  • Responsible to synergise regional implementations while working with the central data sourcing & rules maintenance team for FTP Ledger and inbound/outbound feeds
  • Responsible to drive efficiency through cross skilled testing and system support teams for various FTP implementations across regions
  • Drive standardisation and simplicity of process/technical design (in area of FTP support) across regions/countries, developing and implementing Global Finance Application strategic technical guidance and obtaining global agreement on policies, principles, best practice and core standards.
  • Define and deliver against the FTP CoE Target Operating Model roadmap for the team and its activities, with particular focus on increasing leverage and building capability in GSCs, without losing connectivity and responsiveness to customer needs
  • The role will assist to build and structure the future operating model in line with organization’s future strategic vision of single ledger for major entities, provide right leadership to create capabilities, drive standardisation and process simplification.
  • Ensure consistent, flawless delivery and build an exceptional, world-class team by creating an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture, setting clear goals, motivate team members, discover training needs, and provide coaching, encourage creativity in the team.
  • In the end state the role holder will be responsible for delivery of streamlined and robust RTB support model (controls and maintenance) and creation of pool of Subject Matter Experts supporting change initiatives driven by Finance and/or ensuring all Finance requirements are met in case of Business-driven change.
  • Role holder will work with Financial Accounting, Data Operations and Reporting Operations to eliminate the data quality issues and data gaps to optimize downstream production processes

Principal responsibilities

  • Lead and support FTP Accounting Finance Systems Operations & Change Maintenance, continually rebalancing resources to ensure on time and quality delivery of business benefits. Provision of well-grounded analysis and commentary for own areas of accountability to enable sound understanding of business requirements and informed decision making.
  • Drive standardisation and simplicity of process/technical design across regions/countries, developing and implementing Global Finance Application strategic technical guidance and obtaining global agreement on policies, principles, best practice, and core standards.
  • Provision of critical support to all customers by providing guidance and advice as required.
  • Define and deliver against the CoE Target Operating Model roadmap for the team and its activities, with particular focus on increasing leverage and building capability, without losing connectivity and responsiveness to customer needs.
  • Manage Change delivery, production issues, resolution and communicate/escalate any challenges to the IT & Regional IT teams in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring process and architectures are aligned and simplified.
  • Partnering with IT for system updates and changes.

Customers / Stakeholders:


  • Build trusting relationships with internal customers by consistently delivering value add services & delivery that exceeds expectations & positions the team for sustained success.
  • Work across Group/Regional Businesses and support functions in the region to create an organizational ‘momentum for change’ based around commonality of solutions and standardization of process.
  • Work with Data, Accounting and Reporting operations team and other key stakeholders to understand the areas where the production/reporting processes can be optimised by improvements ‘at the source’.
  • Works closely with the other Change Delivery team, upstream and downstream systems to ensure ongoing change projects are well supported, deliveries are clear, and infrastructure is appropriate and robust.
  • Continuous reviews of the customer issues and ensure systems and processes are tailored on an ongoing basis to meet expectation.

Major Challenges


  • The role will get a comprehensive view of Finance functions and will be accountable to maintain Finance Systems and applications in order to meet all of the Reporting functions requirements.
  • The role holder will be involved into major transformation programmes implemented by Finance and/or Businesses.
  • The increasing burden of new accounting, regulatory and disclosure requirements related changes
  • Given the roadmap and end objective for Finance systems transformation, this role is highly demanding in terms of efficiency improvement and reporting quality, from a regulatory and business perspective.

Observation of Internal Controls


  • The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.
  • The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply. 
  • This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators.
