Job Description

About the position:



The Hazard Communication Specialist is responsible for providing hazard classification and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) authoring services to Chevron business units in support of global chemical regulatory compliance laws.


The Hazard Communication Specialist reports to the Occupational Health Team Lead in the Chevron ENGINE in Bengaluru, India.



Key responsibilities:


  • Utilize software tools to author and revise SDS’s, including incorporating chemical, health, safety and regulatory information in accordance with global regulations


  • Works with internal stakeholders to verify chemical compositions and classify products for human health, environmental and physical hazards


  • Ensure SDS’s are accurate, comprehensive and in compliance with global regulatory requirements


  • Read and interpret Hazard Communication regulations globally to understand SDS requirements and determine impacts on product classification and labelling


  • Gather and analyze data on chemicals from various sources including suppliers, and internal databases


  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders regarding SDS content, regulatory requirements, and updates


  • Provide recommendations to business units on chemical alternatives that are safer or have a lower environmental impact


Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field


  • Familiarity with chemical hazard classification and labelling in accordance with the following regulations: OSHA HazCom (US), CLP/REACH (EU), WHMIS (Canada) and UN GHS


  • Familiarity with transportation regulations (DOT, IATA, IMDG, TDG)


  • Minimal to no travel required


  • Minimum of 1-5 years relevant experience in environmental engineering, process engineering, or petroleum engineering is preferred



Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly, the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1.30pm to 10.30pm.
