Job Description
The Global Commodity Manager will continuously assess internal requirements, external market factors and supplier performance to effectively execute strategies for the assigned commodities that will deliver the strongest value position for Borg Warner Power Drive Systems.
Perform global supplier negotiation, contract execution, business reviews, supplier scorecard reviews, capacity assessments and other supplier management functions.
Optimize commodity spending and provide minimum target annual savings through cost reductions, cost avoidance and operational improvements.
Recommend cost saving proposals including make-versus-buy analysis, resourcing/dual sourcing opportunities, supplier VAVE activities and design for cost.
Coordinate global sourcing activities with manufacturing & engineering departments to acquire materials in the most cost effective and timely manner for the assigned commodities.
Collaborate with Local Plant Purchasing within PDS and Enterprise Commodity Managers at WHQ to assure a cohesive commodity plan for BorgWarner
Plan and lead Global Sourcing Events.
The position is in India and reports to the Global Commodity Director.
MAIN ACTIVITIES:
- Investigate, analysis, benchmark and identify India supply base for electrification products in Electric vehicles.
- Working with global team to drive opportunities with India competitive suppliers to global supply to support BorgWarner PDS plants in India and other regions.
- Continually reduce year-over-year material cost through negotiations, Value Analysis, Long Term Supply Agreements, resourcing actions and industry competitive knowledge
- Develop and publish a comprehensive strategy for all managed commodities, which will include risk mitigation for currency exposure, supply disruption, whole-life cost and Tier supplier liability
- Assess commodity supply base and develop new suppliers as needed consistent with BorgWarner cost, quality and delivery requirements
- Participate in cross functional teams with external suppliers and BW engineering, supplier quality and local purchasing, to develop and execute design for cost programs for components
- Recognized as subject matter expert in commodities
- Develops and delivers training in area of expertise
- Represent the purchasing function at internal meetings; develop market analysis/forecasts on global economic and technical trends and present to senior management as needed
- Use enterprise systems to collect and analyze data
- Create approved bid lists for each assigned commodity and communicate to individual plants
- Identify new technologies and strategic alliances that will strengthen the value position of PDS
- Delivers budget, forecasts and LRP for their area of responsibility
- Negotiates complex and or critical cross BU supplier agreements
- Lead cross-RU commodity team to ensure information and best practice sharing, alignment on commodity strategy and effective execution of agreed plans
- Manage the sourcing pipeline to optimize bundling and leveraging opportunities
- Monitor KPIs and adjust plans accordingly to meet or exceeds targets and report out
- Proactively identify, analyze, mitigate and monitor risks for their commodities and escalate when and where appropriate
- Monitors supply markets and trends
- Coordinates supplier relationship with internal functions (i.e. trouble shooting)
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Total 15+yrs experience
- Four-year degree in Business or Engineering
- 7 plus years purchasing experience (automotive environment desired)
- Strong negotiation skills
- CPM or CPIM certification desired
- SAP experience preferred
- Global (low-cost country) sourcing experience
- Practical experience in the procurement of casting and machining processes
- Understanding of complementary Supply Chain processes is highly desirable (Logistics, Planning/Forecasting and Inventory Control)
- Good presentation skills and sensitivity to cultural differences
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
