Job Description

Purpose of the Job:


The Global Category Manager (India) is responsible for leading sourcing activities in India to develop suppliers that meet global mechanical and electronic sourcing requirements. This role supports and contributes to the development of category strategies, ensuring alignment with global and local savings targets. It involves building strong relationships with key stakeholders, both within India and across the global organisation, to ensure that their needs are considered in the strategy-building and execution process.  The role is based in India and focuses on delivering major sourcing projects through robust project management, and also on leading the supplier management of global suppliers based in India.


Key Responsibilities and Outcomes:


1. Market Analysis & Strategy Development:


   - Continuously research and analyse market trends within India to identify risks and opportunities that may influence short/long-term category strategies.


   - Ensure that category strategies remain relevant, forward-looking, and aligned with the needs of both global and local stakeholders.


2. Project Management:


   - Lead the development and execution of strategic sourcing plans in India, ensuring compliance with global category strategies.


   - Apply project management expertise to ensure the effective implementation of the Gated Sourcing Process.


3. Supplier Management:


   - Develop and maintain an active supplier list for the relevant categories within India, ensuring proper categorization and communication with global sourcing teams.


   - Lead supplier relationship management process with key suppliers in India who supply globally


   - Work closely with the Supplier Development and Quality Team to monitor key supplier performance across Indian sites.


4. Stakeholder Engagement:


   - Ensure ongoing support from stakeholders at all levels for sourcing initiatives in India.


5. Strategic Sourcing Planning:


   - Contribute to the global category strategies by identifying and developing suppliers in India that support global category requirements.


   - Actively monitor emerging technologies and suppliers within India to support the evolution of global category strategies.


6. New Supplier Identification and development & VA/VE Activities:


   - Actively scout for and lead the approval, introduction and ramp up of new suppliers in India who can help achieve strategic objectives.


   - Lead value analysis/value engineering (VA/VE) activities to drive cost and performance improvements among Indian suppliers.


7. Sourcing Process Management:


   - Develop and execute RFI/RFP processes tailored to the Indian market to support both legacy and new products.


   - Apply a Total Cost of Acquisition approach to the strategic sourcing and selection of suppliers in India.


8. Supplier Performance Management:


   - Address and resolve consistent performance issues among key suppliers in India.


   - Plan and lead Key Supplier Strategic Business Reviews (SBRs) in India, involving input from both local and global stakeholders.



Qualifications

- Essential:


  - Degree in Business Administration or Engineering.


  - 7+ years of procurement experience, with specific experience in category and project management.


  - Extensive experience in global sourcing, particularly within India.


  - Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.


  - Experience working within a matrix organization and familiarity with manufacturing environments.


- Desirable:


  - Full Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply certification or equivalent body


  - Relevant industry experience, particularly in the Indian market.
