Job Description

AECOM is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Geologist to join our Environmental Data Management Team. The ideal candidate will possess at least 6 years of experience in geology, hydrogeology, subsurface modeling, environmental site assessments, environmental data management, and environmental consulting. They should have a strong background in site assessment, remediation, environmental data management, and regulatory compliance. Exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders are essential for success in this role.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Analyze and interpret borehole logs, identify subsurface stratigraphy, and classify geological formations.
  • Utilize EQuIS, GIS, gINT, OpenGround, HoleBASE, and other geological software to generate Borelogs and analyze geological and environmental site data.
  • Support field teams by reviewing borehole logs, groundwater monitoring data, and lithological interpretations, ensuring accurate subsurface characterization.
  • Utilize Earth Volumetric Studio (EVS), Seequent Leapfrog, and Golden Software Surfer to visualize and analyze analytical and geophysical data.
  • Develop geological cross-sections using borehole data to improve subsurface visualization.
  • Manage field and analytical data in relational database systems such as Earth Soft EquIS, Locus EIM, or other environmental databases.
  • Generate standardized report outputs using tools like EquIS or EIM.
  • Prepare environmental data summaries and compliance reports for submission to regulatory agencies.
  • Support legacy data migrations to EquIS/EIM, ensuring proper formatting and compatibility.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, project managers, and team members to efficiently achieve project objectives.
  • Research state and federal regulations necessary to manage action levels or clean-up criteria.

Minimum Requirements


  • Strong expertise in environmental data and database management systems (MS SQL Server, MS Access).
  • Proficiency with relational databases such as EarthSoft’s EquIS™, EIM, or Esdat.
  • Ability to analyze data at all stages for logic, consistency, and quality control about field data collection and analytical reporting.
  • Experience with EquIS sub-tools (EnviroInsite, collect, Edge, ArcGIS) is highly desirable but not essential.
  • Proficiency in gINT, EquIS, ArcGIS/QGIS, Open Ground, EVS, or other geology-related software.
  • Ability to independently handle geology-related projects and subsurface data analysis.
  • Strong understanding of ASTM 2488/USCS and geological standards.
  • Experience in managing geological, field, and chemical laboratory data for technical report writing and interpretation.
  • Capable of training junior staff on geology-related software.
  • Ability to maintain and update project dashboards using web-based EquIS Enterprise™ and prepare data tables, charts, and figures for internal and external reports.
  • Advanced proficiency in Office 365, Excel, Power Query, and Power Automate.
  • Strong documentation skills, including data management SOPs, process maps, work instructions, activity analysis, and task effort estimation.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • The ideal candidate should possess a proactive mindset, embracing digital transformation within the core field of geology.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to engage with multidisciplinary teams and clients.

Professional qualification & Experience desired


  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Hydrogeology, or a related field.
  • Experience: 6+ years in environmental consulting, geology, or hydrogeology, with a focus on subsurface geology and environmental data management or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Education: Master’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Hydrogeology, or a related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of 6–10 years in environmental consulting, geology, or hydrogeology, with a focus on subsurface geology and environmental data management or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.
