Job Description:
The Email Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and
security of our Enterprise email systems, including Microsoft Exchange and Google Workspace.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of email systems, networking protocols, and
security best practices.
Essential Job Functions:
● Plan and design email infrastructures that align with organizational needs and best
practices.
● Set up, configure and maintain Microsoft Exchange environment and Google Workspace
servers, including mailboxes, distribution lists, and security features.
● Ensure the smooth operation and availability of email services by performing regular
maintenance tasks and updates.
● Implement robust security measures to protect email systems from unauthorized access,
phishing attacks, and spam.
● Set up and manage Email encryption protocols to safeguard sensitive data in transit and
at rest including DMARC, DKIM and SPF.
● Deploy spam filtering solutions to minimize unwanted emails and protect users from
potential threats.
● Continuously monitor email systems for performance metrics such as latency,
throughput, and response times.
● Track email system availability to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
● Identify potential bottlenecks or performance issues and take proactive measures to
address them.
● Diagnose and resolve email-related issues such as connectivity problems, mailbox
inaccessibility, or email delivery failures.
● Escalate complex problems to senior IT staff or external support teams when necessary.
● Implement a robust email system backup strategy to protect against data loss in case of
hardware failures or disasters.
● Regularly test backups to ensure they are reliable and can be restored successfully.


● Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans to minimize downtime and ensure quick
restoration of email services in the event of a disaster.
● Collaborate with other IT staff members to resolve cross-functional issues and ensure a
consistent user experience.
● Actively participate in IT projects and initiatives related to email systems, such as
migrations, upgrades, or security enhancements.
Required Qualifications:
● Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
● 5+ years of experience in email systems administration
● Experience with Microsoft Exchange and Google Workspace
● Strong understanding of networking protocols and security best practices
● Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Desired Qualifications:
● Certifications in Microsoft Exchange and Google Workspace
● Experience with Active Directory
● Experience with PowerShell scripting
● Experience with virtualization technologies
● DMARC enforcement, monitoring and maintenance
● Experience with Proofpoint
