Role Summary/Purpose


The Engineering Manager for Product Definition is responsible for leading a team to execute the creation of designs & deliver technical drawings for Wabtec products with a specific focus on Diesel Engines and related components.  The role requires global collaboration & partnership with a cross functional team in order to meet schedule requirements and to deliver quality results for the company.


Essential Responsibilities


The Engineering Manager for Product Definition will be responsible for:


  • Leading a team of product definition engineers to create 3D designs and drawings based on engineering, regulatory, and business requirements


  • Managing and prioritizing the workload and resource assignment of the team members with a focus on achieving deliverables on schedule and in alignment with quality metrics.


  • Coaching the team members and providing timely & constructive feedback to develop a performance focused culture based on outcomes & business impact


  • Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and productivity.


  • Developing hours estimations and providing schedule inputs for deliverables as part of the proposals and execution processes.


  • Providing guidance and mentorship to the team to enable execution and growth.


  • Engaging upstream (engineering) and downstream (manufacturing) stakeholders to drive task clarity and full execution of customer deliverables.


Qualifications/Requirements


  • BE/BS/ME/MS in Mechanical Engineering or other disciplines from an accredited institute.


  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Engineering/Technology


  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.


Desired Characteristics


  • Prior leadership experience


  • Locomotive / Mechanical systems domain knowledge with minimum 5 years of experience in industry


  • Proven track record of on time/cost/quality execution


  • Great Team player with ability to motivate, energize and influence the global team.


  • Good understanding of the Engineering design processes and tools


  • Good working knowledge of Siemens Teamcenter PLM and NX Software Platforms


  • Mechanical design experience, particularly Diesel Engine Design, Castings, & Machining


  • Established analytical and quantitative ability


  • Demonstrated commitment for process improvement


  • Customer-focused in defining quality and establishing priorities


  • Six Sigma Green or Black belt certification


  • Strong organizational and project management skills


  • Strong Financial Acumen
