Purpose of the role


To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 


Accountabilities


  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

At Barclays, we don’t just adapt to the future – Embark on a transformative journey as Engineering Lead - Debt Manager Transformation, where you'll spearhead the evolution of our change delivery team, focus on creating a result-oriented environment that drives performance and optimization across Barclays. Your role is to accelerate the Debt Manager Transformation program for the BFA needs lab within Customer Care Journey Labs. This is a multiyear initiative that is now in the second year and requires scaling up of the Engineering capacity and competency of the team. As an Engineering lead, you shall ensure that the teams deliver business milestones as committed and raise the bar on the engineering quality and team competencies.  Maintain effective communication with operations and stakeholders.



To be successful as a Engineering Lead - Debt Manager Transformation, you should have experience with



  • Work closely with the Business, Solutions and Design colleagues to build a healthy backlog.

  • Iterative delivery using agile methodology, in collaboration with the program team.

  • Ensure high quality of delivery, meeting technology and delivery controls.

  • Demonstratea continuous improvement mindset resulting raising the bar across various measures not limited to quality and efficiency of your deliverables.

  • Challenge, inspire and mentor your teams. Plan and organize team-building activities and events to celebrate successes and improve team morale.

  • Strong engineering skills, with experience across the software delivery lifecycle.

  • Competent in Agile and Scaled Agile principles, with a track-record in agile delivery.

  • Business acumen and analytical thinking

  • Experience of managing a team of 15-20 personnel

  • Banking domain experience, preferably in Collections and Recoveries journeys

Some of Highly Valued Skills may include:



  • Config / Customization experience in Debt Manager 11 or equivalent product

You shall be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen strategic thinking and digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.
