Job Description

What you will do


The Sr. design Engineer will be responsible to lead project engineering team ensuring on time and quality project deliveries. Also leads cross-functional projects or programs for Silent Aire Data Center product domain for the product categories such as Hyper Scale and modular data Centers products.


Coordinates the engineering, design and development activities according to project priorities, time and cost. Supports or leads multiple projects concurrently. Manage complex programs requiring extensive global cross functional contacts and influencing skills. Work to understand market and customer needs and leads projects accordingly to customer requirement in term of timing and technical requirements. Ensure project deliverables accordingly to the project timing and milestones.


Refers to the Engineering Manager, for all engineering major projects, reporting the status of each project on regular basis and on timely manner based on the busines criticality/urgency. Manages, develops and engages the team/s to ensure continues availability of skilled resources.


Analyzes, evaluates and plans methods of approach and organizes a means to achieve the solution of complex technical problems. Work with team to develop innovative concepts and solutions in line with business plan (Meeting set timelines & budgets). Consults with technical staff for a major technology and related technical matters. Willing and successful in taking appropriate risk, utilize relevant data to assess risks, evaluate options and make recommendations. Proactively identifies potential risks or roadblocks and provides solutions.


How you will do it


Receive and analyze project request for Product Development and Re-Engineering projects through proper channel, and estimate the scope, timelines, and any other specific requirements.


  • Should be able to plan and take decisions individually, by interacting with Business Unit to facilitate any project related decisions.

Product Knowledge, CAD and other software tools


  • Should be able guide the team for design and development of Hyper Scale and modular Data centers products.
  • Should have knowledge of Sheetmetal and machined parts design.
  • Concept layouts along with preliminary design feasibility and DFMEA.
  • Should be expert in the CAD tool (Inventor).
  • Should be able to do design calculations required during the project execution.
  • Should be able to analyze and implement GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Should have a good command on DFMA and design for serviceability.
  • Should be knowledgeable about the manufacturing processes preferably Sheetmetal & plastic casting.
  • Should have basic knowledge of manufacturing engineering and Jigs & Fixtures.
  • Should have experience with Design verification and testing
  • Should have experience with UL/CE certification for Data Center AHU.
  • Should be knowledgeable about reverse engineering methods.
  • Should be knowledgeable about inspection methods.
  • He should be able to work with data management systems preferably Inventor Vault.
  • He should be knowledgeable about ERP (preferably SAP) systems.

In case of multiple projects on-hand, prioritize the projects with close coordination with the business unit.


  • Should be able to prioritize and take decisions individually, by interacting with Business Unit, to facilitate any project and resource related decisions. 

Execute/allocate the project requests by meeting the business unit requirements in respect to scope, timeline and specifics.


  • Manage and execute project from start to end by ensuring timeline and quality, by allocating due resources as per the requirement.
  • Should be able to resolve technical as well as non-technical issues that may affect the project with a proactive approach.
  • Keep manager updated on all project related issues, concerns and achievements and seek his support whenever required.
  • Drive continuous improvement activities & set high standards of performance by focusing on customer requirements.
  • Should be able to work & manage multiple projects and resources efficiently.
  • Take decisions and provide corrective actions and preventive measures regarding quality and timelines for the projects and maintain proper documentation.
  • Should be able to work independently and take decisions whenever required.
  • Provide value added suggestions for design improvements and cost reductions wherever applicable.
  • He should be able to handle all the complex projects from the business unit.
  • He should be able to understand and emphasize the cost implications involved in the designing and manufacturing processing.

Generate and manage daily time logs and related reports.


  • Gather, compile and track monthly and weekly reports.
  • Analyze the reports and provide inputs for performance & efficiency improvements.
  • Update manager on any red flags that might pop up while analyzing the reports.
  • Ensure that the team provides the required inputs for the reports on time.
  • Assist/guide in training on product/ processes to junior level associates / trainees including project logs.

Conduct VAVE, product benchmarking, and teardown workshop to identify potential cost-saving improvements Work with the plant to optimize current processes and reduce scrap Evaluate and assess pre-sales inquiry for special customer request Provide alternative solution for localization of design for North America, Europe, and ROA market Well versed with the regulatory guideline for HVAC product for North America, Europe, China and Middle east region Investigate alternative designs to maintain performance while reducing cost and weight


What we look for


Required


  • B.E / B.Tech / M.Tech - Mechanical Engineering
  • 8 to 10 years’ experience in experience working with product or system design in a manufacturing environment.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience working in mechanical NPD/VAVE/Benchmarking projects
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing process of sheet metal and plastic components.
  • Experience with Item Master data, BOM structure/costing, engineering change process, etc.
  • Experience in Value Analysis Value Engineering (VAVE) processes
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem solving skills.
  • Experience in continuous improvement, process improvement, benchmarking, etc.
  • Broad technical understanding (products, development, manufacturing, product cost analysis, etc.)

  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills
  • Project management experience
  • Proven interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Strong communication skills, presentation skills
  • HVAC product portfolio knowledge is advantageous
  • Excellent computer skills, data analysis/management
  • He should be able to work with PLM (preferably Windchill) and data management system
  • He should be knowledgeable about ERP (preferably SAP) systems
  • Six sigma green/white belt certification
