Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.

• Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
• Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
• Designs HVAC systems for various types of buildings, considering factors such as energy efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and occupant comfort.
• Develops and modifies mechanical drawings and specifications for HVAC systems using CAD software.
• Conducts heat load calculations and energy modeling to determine appropriate HVAC equipment sizing and selection.
• Collaborates with architects, electrical engineers, and other professionals to ensure proper integration of HVAC systems with overall building design.
• Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.
• Identifies discrepancies in results.
• Performs site visits to assess existing HVAC systems and recommend improvements or replacements.
• Ensures compliance with local building codes, ASHRAE standards, and other relevant regulations.
• Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
• Participates in project meetings and communicates design concepts to clients and team members.
• Stays updated on emerging HVAC technologies and sustainable design practices.
• Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or related field
• 2+ years of relevant experience in HVAC system design or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
• Proficiency in CAD software, preferably AutoCAD MEP or Revit MEP
• Knowledge of ASHRAE standards, local building codes, and energy efficiency regulations
• Experience with heat load calculations and energy modeling software
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license or working towards licensure
• LEED Accredited Professional certification
• Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
• Familiarity with sustainable design practices and green building technologies
• Knowledge of project management principles and practices
• Experience in commissioning HVAC systems
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for engineering calculations
