    We’re looking for highly motivated and talented Software Engineers who are passionate about engineering velocity, innovation and have significant experience in embedded software design for high performance, fault tolerant, high availability applications in an Optical data networking domain. Individuals who possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and who are committed to delivering quality results on aggressive timelines.


    Software Engineers who have had hands-on experience implementing, testing and debugging Device drivers (SPI, I2C, UART), Layer 1/Layer 2 optical data networking protocols on custom hardware platforms. Who are proficient in C/C++ development in a real-time embedded Linux environment with excellent data path debugging skills and who have had exposure to L1 protocols such as OTN, SONET, SDH, Gbe/10Gbe, FC, CPRI etc


    Ciena’s 6500 Product Family seeks an application software designer to develop application software for the provisioning, alarm detection/reporting, conditioning etc for the GigE/FC/OCn/OTM facilities on the optical transponder modules on the 6500 products. Responsibilities include: 


    Participate in C, C++ software development of new functionality in various software components. Analyzing product requirements and customer use cases and propose implementation architectures for both current and next-generation hardware platforms Prototyping and evaluating alternative solutions on target hardware platforms Delivering detailed functional specification and technical design documents for embedded software architectures and components Participate in the design of various embedded software/firmware applications. Test, document, debug and maintain the applications.

    Participate in backlog defect reduction. Write scripts, test utilities, and other development tools. Lead Meetings and Brainstorming sessions

    Must Haves –


    The successful applicant will have the following skills:


    Good experience in designing embedded application software or firmware for telecom domain solution. Good experience in designing device driver’s software or firmware (SPI, UART, I2C interfaces and Clocking devices, Serdes, pluggables etc) for telecom domain solution. Good understanding of network technology and preferably working experience in SONET/Ethernet/OTN/Fiber channel/CPRI using the mapper devices/FPGA. Programming experience in C/C++. Programming experience with Inter-process communication facilities on Linux and VxWorks. Programming experience in bash, perl Broad experience in multiple aspects of embedded Linux and VxWorks. Comfortable in a lab environment and able to integrate software onto custom hardware. Familiarity with the Linux and VxWorks build-process. Working knowledge of VxWorks OS and Kernel. Familiarity with Perforce, ClearCase, GIT or other SCM. Effective written and verbal communications skills. Ability to work within a team, and to influence other teams. An independent worker who can handle projects by understanding requirements from PLMs, plan and design with System Architects. Understanding of profiling tools for resource usage and performance. Understanding of Debug equipment’s like Jtag debugger, emulators. Knowledge of Optical networks is an added advantage


    Required Experience


     
    • Bachelor’s/Maters degree in E&C or Computer Engineering.
    • 8+ years of experience in C/C++ on embedded Linux and VxWorks.
    • 8+ years of experience in an embedded software design role.
