Mission Statement: Hitachi Energy is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) within our Transformer organization for the Emerging Market (EM) sourcing team. The person will be responsible for the preventive Supplier quality assurance and delivery performance improvement activities for the Emerging Market suppliers in India. The EM SQE role will involve qualifying and auditing the suppliers, monitoring the performance and initiating the performance improvement activities for the strategic suppliers and working closely with the category managers globally to contribute to the Emerging Market sourcing strategy from quality perspective. The person will also be responsible from resolving the critical quality issues of the EM suppliers and leading the critical parts/materials approval process standardization at global level following PPAP methodology. The SQE will be reporting to the EM Sourcing Manager and will be based in India.
Your responsibilities:
- Supplier Qualification evaluating the quality management system of the suppliers and align on corrective actions with the suppliers and follow-up the resolution.
- Supplier Assessment (On-site Audits): Planning and conducting the required supplier on-site audits including the corrective action plan alignment with the suppliers. Verifying the effective closure of corrective action plan items by the supplier side.
- Parts Qualification leading the production part approval process (PPAP) for the new supplier parts/materials including the coordination of trial parts and first article inspection activities with the receiving factory quality. Perform required product surveillance / inspection at supplier manufacturing site before shipping to customer regions.
- Supplier Non-Conformity Resolution leading the non-conformity resolution process with the suppliers in case of the escalated technical issues from the factories and ensure the effective root-cause analysis and the countermeasure implementation by the suppliers.
- Supplier Performance Monitoring: Monitoring and consolidating the supplier delivery and quality KPI’s, the critical non-conformities escalated from the factories.
- Supplier Performance Improvement: Leading the supplier performance improvement actions for the targeted suppliers to meet the customer expectations (following DMAIC and/or 8D methodology).
- Function as liaison between SCM, Technology, Quality of the importing factories and the Suppliers to conduct all supplier quality management processes in India.

Your background:
- Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in one of the disciplines: mechanical, welding, materials or production engineering (or similar technical discipline).
- 5+ years of relevant quality assurance/control, manufacturing, supplier development or similar operational experience in the field of metal fabrication, welding, machining, transformer components or similar industries.
- Knowledge of heat treatment processes and surface protection processes such as hot-dip galvanize, powder and wet paint processes, E-coating (KTL) processes, etc.
- Familiarity with ISO-9001, IATF16949, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards and external auditor certification is a plus.
- Welding engineering/inspector certification (e.g. International Welding Engineer/Inspector (IWE/IWI), painting/coating inspector certification (e.g. FROSIO), NDT certification (ISO 9712) is a strong advantage.
- Good understanding of management standards such as ISO 3834, EN 1090, welding standards (ISO 9606, ISO 15609, ISO 15614) and the quality acceptance levels (e.g. ISO 5817, ISO 23277) and Non-destructive testing standards (ISO 3452, ISO 17637).
- Experience working with Process Improvement and/or Continuous Improvement practices (e.g., Kaizen, DMAIC, A3, 8D, 5Why Analysis, etc…)
- (Lean) Six Sigma belt (Green/Black) is a strong advantage.
- Proven experience with the process audits, APQP/PPAP, PFMEA, Process Control Plan, and inspection test plan creation
- Be willing to travel ~50 %
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills and ability to create a collaborative environment for accomplishing project objectives.
- Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required.
