A Day in the LifeThis position is in the MEIC, Hyderabad; as a key member of the Hardware and Software Integration Center of Excellence, within the Medtronic R&D engineering team to develop and support the next generation robotic assisted surgical system. This engineer will participate in the debugging and root cause analysis related to hardware and software defect resolution at the Robotic system level. This individual shall collaborate with Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Software Engineers, Reliability Engineers V&V and Service Engineers to ensure the system design meets system and subsystem requirements. This engineer will also develop tools for monitoring system performance, improving utility of logged data, and enhancing debugging.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned


  • Work with subsystem electrical engineers to facilitate integration process across subsystem components and develop a deep understanding of the system, including working knowledge of the design and performance against the requirements
  • Provide rapid response triage, root cause, debugging and repair of the system
  • Test, maintain, and upgrade electrical components for communicating with and controlling a complex mechatronic system
  • Develop and document repair and retrofit procedures and maintain configuration management
  • Coordinate with field service engineers on the system troubleshooting and repair
  • Interface with engineers to prepare quality documentation, maintain records, and release reports
  • Support contract manufacturer with troubleshooting production equipment
  • Guide strategic efforts to improve the integration process and to influence the development process based on integration needs and challenges
  • Communicate with management related to project objectives, schedules, system performance, and integration needs
  • Contribute to the assessment of proposed design changes and impact based on test evidence
  • Provide written disposition and evidence to resolve anomalies generated from integration issues
  • Circuitry will involve a mix of custom digital (microprocessor / DSP / FPGA), analog (op-amp, current sensing, filtering), and power electronics circuit design, as well as off-the shelf equipment.

Required knowledge and Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication/Instrumentation , Electrical Engineering and minimum of 4 to 6  years of relevant experience,
  • Strong experience with motors and motor control, especially using BLDC motors
  • Experience with sensors (Encoders, Hall Effect Sensors, Torque, and Load Cells), Ethernet and highly regulated and/or safety-critical systems (medical device experience strongly preferred)
  • Certified in IPC-7711/21 for PCBA rework and repair
  • Proven ability to work with multiple teams on concurrent, interdependent projects and managing priorities effectively.
  • Expertise in system-level development of a complex electro-mechanical system
  • Knowledge of relevant technologies including:
  • Mechatronics / Robotics
  • Mechanical and electrical interfaces
  • Communication protocols
  • Sensors, actuators, controllers
  • Kinematics of mechanisms
