Drafter

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The primary functions of this position are to perform the functions of a Draftsman and Detailer by creating average to complex product layouts, 3D parametric models and 3D drawing models.  Depending upon experience may also be required to review the accuracy of drawings created by CAD or manual procedures, provide leadership/guidance to Draftsman or Detailer level personnel and create complex detailed drawings (such as castings, bearing housings, rotors, conduit arrangements, turbine assemblies, etc,).

BACKGROUND and EXPERIENCE:

Associate degree in specialized drafting technology from an accredited technical school, plus (2) years of relevant industry experience at Elliott or similar.　

Must be fluent with Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) hardware and software, preferably AutoCAD and Inventor.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED EXPERIENCES:

Experience with Inventor Piping, Inventor Content Center, parametric modeling and general computer programming preferred.

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/COMPETENCIES:

Analyzes design specifications, requisitions, supplier prints, and unit layout drawings to identify the requirements of drawings.　

Reviews drafting assignments and researches files for existing drawings that meet or nearly meet the specifications or will serve as references for new drawings.　

Secures a copy of similar existing drawings and, by applying drawing reproduction and eradication via manual / CAD techniques, prepares the drawing for inclusion of new or modified data.　

Creates new or revised manufacturing and customer drawings from graphic references such as drawings, layouts, 3D models, sketches, marked-up prints, etc. and by adding details such as dimensions, tolerances, finishes, fits, notes, parts lists, etc.; and by using explicit drafting procedures and references.　

As required, prepares layout drawings and/or 3D models to verify specifications and to serve as guides for the preparation of finished drawings.

Work assignments are scheduled by department Supervisor or Drafting Project Administrator.　

Reviews completed drafting assignments, prepares release and distribution forms and delivers assignment materials to the senior department personnel.　

Initiates engineering change instructions (ECC's or spec releases) to be checked by senior department personnel.　

Corrects identified errors and inserts additions on completed drawings.　

Maintains related records and files.　

Provides feedback on scheduling to Project Drafting Administrator or Supervisor. 　

Presents drafting procedures and product change suggestions for consideration and review.　

Provides instructions, reviews progress, answers questions and checks drawings for pictorial and specification accuracy and compliance with instructions and assignment requirements.　

Creates, edit, and issue electronic bills of material, drawing release forms, Engineering Change Notices and other records necessary for the completion and issuance of assignments.　

ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create, update and maintain configuration models and standard models for the department.

Analyze design and/or improvement requests and discusses requirements with the requisitioner to understand requirements.

Completes actions on design and/or improvement projects with supervision.
