POSITION DESCRIPTION Title: Credit Risk Management, Wealth Management Commercial Real Estate Director Business Unit: Morgan Stanley Private Bank N.A/ Risk Management Position Location: Mumbai, India Department Profile The cornerstone of Morgan Stanley's risk management philosophy is the execution of risk-adjusted returns through prudent risk-taking that protects Morgan Stanley's capital base and franchise. Risk Management protects the Firm from exposure to losses resulting from defaults by our lending and trading counterparties. Credit Risk Management (CRM) evaluates credit risk transactions and approves rejects or modifies them considering the availability and appropriateness of arrangements for reducing risk or risk mitigation. The department also assigns Internal Credit Ratings; establishes and manages credit risk limits in accordance with the risk tolerance established by the Board; monitors and reports on credit risk exposures on a regular basis to the Chief Risk Officer and Firm Risk Management. CRM also interacts with business units to ensure that credit risk assessments are factored into business decisions. Morgan Stanley is seeking a highly qualified candidate for Credit Risk function responsible for Morgan Stanley Wealth Managements Tailored Lending Commercial Real Estate Business. Morgan Stanley is a global leader in wealth management with an extensive network of 1,200 offices across the U.S. and in key international locations. We provide a range of products and services to individuals, businesses and institutions, including brokerage and investment advisory services, financial and wealth planning, credit and lending, cash management, annuities and insurance, retirement and trust. Primary responsibilities: This is a multi-faceted role responsible for coverage of Commercial Real Estate (CRE) transactions, under the WM Risk-Tailored Lending business that is secured on all property types. The principal responsibilities include managing a rapidly growing portfolio of existing loans, monitoring ongoing portfolio management activities and evaluating new loans/transactions or collateral additions. The successful candidate will be responsible to: Monitor and manage new loans & existing portfolio of CRE transactions including periodic reporting of risk profiles, trends, industry developments and concentrations. In conjunction with the Sr. Credit Officer, prepare Annual Reviews, Quarterly Reviews, monitor the ongoing financial condition and performance of the Borrower. Perform a thorough credit analysis on borrowers financial health, risk rating and collateral analysis. Presentation to Credit Senior management, the Firms Credit Committee, and other internal and external stakeholders Maintain frequent communication with Sr. Credit Officers regarding the financial condition of Borrower(s) and compliance with reporting requirements. Keep current on major developments and changes in financial condition and identification of risks. Ensure loan documentation accurately represents the terms of the loan approval and permits Morgan Stanley to enforce its rights on the collateral in a default situation. Review credit approval memos for compliance with firms credit policy and philosophy. Identify early warning signals in deteriorating credits. Perform regular financial, credit and lien checks. Check for covenant compliance. Make timely recommendations regarding changes in credit classification and risk rating. Advice Sr. Credit Officers on remedial action plans as needed. Work with Sr. Credit Officers to maintain and update files in an orderly and timely fashion. Manage all requests within stated turn times unless justified as an exception. Manage expectations through active communication with Sr. Credit Officers. Must escalate material individual relationship or portfolio observations promptly to Sr. Credit Officers. Manage a team of Analysts/Associates in terms of personal development, oversee production to ensure deliverables are on time and are of high quality, and provide timely feedback. Manage escalations, and show a strong inclination towards problem solving and innovation. Contribute to production and recognize proper delegation, setting of department goals, work on synergies across different teams, projects to increase production and create efficient workflows and processes.
