Role description:


  • A key position within the GEC organization reporting to the Discipline Director  
  • Responsible for technical delivery of Sustainable Operations (SO) services globally through the GECs
  • Collaborate with SO Solutions Directors from all Business Areas (BAs) including the US, CA, UK, EU, Brazil, and Australia to understand market needs and develop technical capabilities in the GECs
  • Liaise with Resilience GEC Managers in all Business Areas including the US, CA, UK, EU, Brazil, and Australia to generate more work for GECs.
  • Collaborate with various services leads in the GEC including EDD, Digital EHS, PSS, Digital SO, etc to deliver projects globally
  • Work with the Global Community of Practice leads to build teams in the GECs for EHS, Industrial Hygiene, Air Quality, Noise, etc.
  • Develop EHS audit teams to deliver audit reports remotely for global clients. Also provide auditing and consulting services to clients for ISO14001 and ISO 45001.
  • Develop teams and skills in environmental compliance such as air, water, waste management, stormwater permitting and SPCC plans.
  • Ensure the quality of deliverables is met the first time and every time satisfying the client.  
  • Train and mentor junior staff in the GECs (India, Philippines, and Romania) on technical aspects  
  • Help identify gaps in technical skills in the team and support recruitment to fill the gaps
  • Support Global Sustainable Operations Director on their strategic priorities and solutions.  
  • Support the Resilience GBA/Global Environmental Service Line on standardization and automation aspects of data and reports.
  • Support SO BA teams on Digital aspects and foster a digital/ human innovative mindset with the GEC offices.
  • Represent the GECs in Community of Practices (CoP) discussions/ meetings, technical experts’ meetings, and client meetings as required.

Role accountabilities:


Directing: You are a senior leader in the business, you bring your wealth of experience and leadership acumen to define the vision, strategy, culture, and growth across the Arcadis GECs. You would typically take responsibility of teams exceeding 100 colleagues. You must be highly respected in the regions and be actively defining the growth of the business.

  • You manage the overall business relationship in regional offces and service lines to identify and resolve issues, to identify business opportunities to improve the cost management offering and to influence their decision making and deliver client satisfaction.
  • You have in-depth understanding of the business benefits derived from Global Design and Arcadis’ key financial metrics and champion the involvement of the GECs as an integral part of Arcadis’ Global resources ensuring that local colleagues understand the benefits of being part of the team. 
  • You take ultimate responsibility for finances and quality delivery for multiple disciplines and regions, creating a culture of ownership and accountability.

  • You work with your team leaders to create actions plans to drive the strategy, and monitor implementation.
  • You take decisions on organizational structure within your area, ensuring the right individuals are placed at relevant levels.
  • You carry out SWOT analysis of the business discipline on a regular basis while engaging team members at the right levels.
  • You are responsible for recruitment targets, salary decisions and GEC headcount and capital budgets.
  • You manage discipline budget and provide guidance to the team in taking financial decisions while being fully accountable for the spend

Qualifications & Experience:


  • BE Tech/MTech in Environmental/Civil/Mechanical Engineering, Environment Science or equivalent MBA preferred
  • Ideally 15+ years of professional consulting and leadership experience
  • Proven technical leadership in Environmental Science, EHS Management, Occupational Health & Safety or other directly relevant EHS compliance disciplines
  • Knowledge of Management Systems (ISO 14001, 45001)
  • Strong understanding of Environment, Sustainability, and H&S business
  • Experience in managing staff/stakeholders across a wide range of disciplines.  
  • Interact with clients, understanding their needs, and conversing with regulators
  • Confident in building strong and lasting relationships at a regional and global level
  • A strong, self-motivated, and assertive person capable of working under pressure.  
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Flexible to adopt changes and challenges as per business requirements.
  • Proficient in global digital and technology trends related to the environmental sector
