Job Title: Director, SPQ – Business Agility, Performance Management

Introduction to role
As the Director, SPQ – Business Agility, Performance Management, you will lead the Performance Management team within IT SPQ – Business Agility. You will be responsible for setting the Performance Management reporting strategy for IT, developing and agreeing on Performance Management metrics across IT functions, completing organisational change, and ensures standard processes ices. This role involves leading a global dev-ops team and supervising the work of Principal Data Analysts and their direct reports.
Accountabilities
- Lead the team to implement all BAU activities in refreshing and updating existing Performance Management data products.
- Drive the development of new and existing Performance Management data products and dashboards.
- Orchestrate work with consumers/business users on the definition of the data requirements for intended data solutions.
- Translate unstructured, sophisticated business problems into a data design and solution.
- Lead Performance Management analysis projects that include the profiling of data to understand provenance, quality, metadata models, ownership, and compliance with internal and external regulatory standards.
- Lead ad hoc wrangling of data (sourcing, extraction, profiling, integration) to support business insight.
- Lead the engagement of data engineers in the development of Source to Target pipelines (e.g., ETL design).
- Lead the design & testing of the quality and performance of derivative data models in downstream reporting and analytics solutions.
- Be responsible for the processing of requests for compliant access to data; lead the definition and management of information lifecycle management in data solutions.
- Own the provision of data understanding (structure, provenance, quality) to Architects, Data Engineers, and Data Scientists to support use in Analytics projects.
- Lead and support IT and business data teams in identifying and handling Critical Data Assets and Elements including Reference, Master, and Metadata.
- Collaborate with Risk, Assurance, Privacy, Information Security, and Regulatory authorities to ensure data and information controls are in place and adhered to.
- Clearly and objectively communicate insights and results, as well as their associated uncertainties and limitations.
- Lead and provide mentorship to Data Analysts – setting of work, supervision of task completion, fix challenges, mentor skills and behavior development, and supplying to performance evaluation reports.
- Handle the quality of work produced by Data Analysts under supervision.
- Develop and supervise standard processes for Data Analysis: Methods and Technology: technology evaluation, POCs or equivalent experience. Understanding external innovations and application to AZ data needs with respect to Data Analysis. Working across the internal AstraZeneca community to identify and develop standard processes.
- Deliver training and skill development in Data Analysis across the community: training materials, FAQs, Playbooks as well as leading community forums supporting capability development.
- Personal development and training in Data Analysis subject area leadership.
- Provide domain data expertise in Performance Management measures and metrics for IT (data standards, systems, metadata models, policies, business processes).
Essential Skills/Experience
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Data Management or possibly team area (R&D, Finance, HR etc) and cross-trained or equivalent number of years of experience
- proven ability in a data analyst or consulting or business role aligned to data and information management with practical examples of performing data analysis in terms of defining requirements, gleaning critical data elements, defining data quality criteria and checkpoints
- Domain data understanding: the structure, provenance and meaning of the source data crucial to the domain (e.g., ServiceNow, Workday). Understanding of the business processes in the generation and consumption of data
- Leading others in the delivery of data analysis activities, ideally line management team leadership
- The role holder will possess a blend of data requirement analysis, data quality analysis, data stewardship skills
- Excellent team member management and organisational change skills, engaging with IT function leads, IT VPs and CIO
- Experience in translating requirements into fit-for-purpose data models, data processing designs and data profile reports
- Experience in the use of data modeling technologies
- Experience in working in multi-skilled, multi-location data teams, working to agile principles
- Knowledge of key AZ policies and standards for data covering areas such as privacy and security
- Excellent written and verbal communication, and consultancy skills
- Awareness of the end-to-end processes and activities in the build and support of Data solutions
- Experienced in applying a risk-based methodology to data and information management
- Experience in the use of metadata cataloguing tools
- Owning the work of others – task setting, supervision and mentor of more junior colleagues
- Experience with Data Analysis enabling tool kits
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Post-graduate degree in IT, Data Management, MBA
- Experience and knowledge of analytical tools and software, including integration into emerging AI technologies
