The Platforms and Capabilities team within Global Risk and Compliance (GRC) is responsible for building and implementing leading-edge platforms and solutions for risk management. Our vision is to “provide best-in-class Platforms and Capabilities that enable the risk management framework in GRC and across the Company, and empower colleagues to excel at risk management activities.


We are seeking a Director of Digital Product Management responsible for a suite of such platforms. As a Director of Product Management, you will lead a team of product managers and collaborate with engineers, designers, risk managers, and other stakeholders to deliver innovative and user-centric solutions. You will be responsible for defining the product vision, strategy, and roadmap, as well as managing the entire product lifecycle from ideation to launch and beyond. You will also mentor and coach your team members, foster a culture of excellence and innovation, and drive alignment and collaboration across the organization.


The Director will be responsible for the following enterprise platforms:


Smart Monitoring – The Smart Monitoring platform enables the Company to manage risk through Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) that are automated bots that sense risk in a predictive and detective way. It leverages advances in data science and automation to help achieve this objective. The Smart Monitoring platform is leveraged by Business Units across American Express to monitor risks.


Enterprise Model Manager (EMM) – The EMM platform is a company-wide platform to govern and monitor AI and ML models and non-models. The EMM platform is going through a multi-year modernization journey and is a big bet for the organization.


Privacy platforms – These platforms include solutions for data retention, data deletion and privacy event notifications.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Own the Smart Monitoring platform, Enterprise Model Manager and Privacy platforms end-to-end.
  • Create vision for the platforms. Develop and communicate strategy and roadmap that aligns with the American Expresses’ and GRC’s goals, and user needs.
  • Manage execution by building and prioritizing the feature backlog according to defined metrics including business value, return on investment, and job size.
  • Conduct market research, user research, and data analysis to identify user problems, validate hypotheses, and measure outcomes.
  • Understand and apply new trends and competitive best practices into product roadmap and requirements.
  • Partner with Business and Technology teams across American Express to understand and support new and innovative ways of achieving the product strategy
  • Establish and track key performance indicators and success metrics for the product portfolio.
  • Communicate product updates, progress, and results to internal and external audiences, including senior leadership, customers, and partners.
  • Lead and manage a team of product managers, setting clear expectations, providing feedback, and enabling their professional growth.
  • Drive a culture of innovation, experimentation, and customer-centricity within the product team and the organization.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Minimum 10 years of overall experience – At least 5 years of product management/ownership experience in a leadership role related to a platform or products at financial services or technology companies
  • Must have a product mindset – the successful candidate must be able to develop a clear vision for the platform, while paving the way that is full of ambiguity, to realize the vision. Should be adept at dealing with uncertainty, taking a balance approach to developing solutions that leverage intuition and data
  • Exceptional analytical, strategic, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data and user feedback to drive decision making.

·Well-versed with the product management lifecycle from concept to launch and beyond


·Experience working with software engineering teams in a scaled agile setup, with a strong ability to translate product requirements succinctly and ensure technology deliverables are built with high quality


·Experience in working on large scale modernizations or transformation of complex platforms/products.


    • Experience as a leader with a strong sense of urgency. A strong natural leadership style that moves people to take action, motivates, and inspires excellence
  • Demonstrated leadership managing multiple direct reports in multiple geographic locations
  • Manage stakeholders across American Express. Demonstrated ability to achieve results in a matrixed organization structure, interfacing with various business units and staff groups in addition to coordinating the efforts with teams like Software Engineering
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to synthesize and articulate complex concepts – experience in presenting effectively to business partners and senior executives
  • Engineering, Business, or technical degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred; PMP/SAFe POPM certification desired
  • Experience building risk management platforms or AI/Machine learning Platforms is a plus
