Job Description

The Director of Data Engineering will spearhead the development and execution of our data strategy, focusing on the design, development, and management of our data infrastructure. This role demands a visionary leader with deep expertise in data technologies, strong leadership skills, and a passion for driving data excellence.


About the Role:


  • Lead and mentor a team of high performing data engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.


  • Guide team to dynamically and iteratively transform data that enable data analysts and scientists to deliver actional insights and analytics across all business units


  • Develop and execute a comprehensive data engineering and data management strategy aligned with business objectives.


  • Define, develop and evolve a long-term data strategy to align with organizational goals.


  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, technology, and business stakeholders, to understand and meet data needs.


  • Implement best practices for data governance, quality, and security.


  • Stay abreast of emerging data technologies and methodologies to continuously enhance our data capabilities.


  • Lead data product initiatives from inception to delivery, ensuring timely and successful completion.


  • Conduct impact analysis and risk assessment for data projects and initiatives.


  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators to measure project success and customer satisfaction.


  • Serve as a liaison between data engineering and other departments to facilitate data-driven decision-making.


  • Present complex data concepts and strategies to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.


  • Be a technical expert in understanding the current technology, limitations and challenges around facilitating the implementation of analytics across various products.


  • Clearly and effectively communicate timelines for deliverables to ensure all stakeholders are informed and aligned.


  • Assist in unblocking the team by resolving technical issues and addressing process-related obstacles to ensure smooth project progression


  • Hire, Develop, and retain talent within the data engineering team.


About You:


You’re a fit for the role of Director, Data Engineering, if your background includes:


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, or a related field.


  • 15+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.


  • Proven expertise in SQL, DBT, Snowflake, and cloud platforms such as AWS/Azure.


  • Experience with Customer Data Platform (CDP) tools such as Segment and ActionIQ, among others, to effectively manage and utilize customer data for insights and personalized experiences.


  • Experience with data visualization and analytics tools like Tableau, PowerBI, and Alteryx.


  • Strong understanding of data governance, quality, and security practices.


  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.


  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.


Experience in leading change initiatives within an organization, particularly in transitioning from legacy systems to modern data solutions.
