The IBU (International Business Unit) is Lilly’s business vertical that covers the entire world, except for the US. A wide range of sales, marketing, and value & access functions across the world are supported by the IBU Tech@Lilly team, and the LCCI team based in Bengaluru is a fully integrated part of this team.


The Director, BU Tech@Lilly LCCI-IBU will lead all aspects of people, process and technology delivery from LCCI; this role will report into the Senior Director - Business Units (BU) Tech@Lilly LCCI.


The primary objective of this role is to ensure that the sub-functions under Business Units (BU) LCCI TECH@LILLY for IBU (International Business Unit) are strongly positioned to scale existing services within the LCCI TECH@LILLY portfolio and to develop and operationalize the rapidly increasing new services with a high degree of consistency, security/quality compliance, and scalability.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Act as a member of the LCCI TECH@LILLY Lead Team and IBU Tech Lead Team to ensure governance, process and compliance consistency across the various LCCI TECH@LILLY service areas.
  • Lead a team of 50-100+ full-time employees for various sub-functions of BU TECH@LILLY spread across:
  • IBU Data
  • IBU Automation
  • IBU Web and MCTO
  • IBU Geographies
  • IBU Solution Services
  • Contribute to the strategy and roadmap for the sub-function of the business units TECH@LILLY and key investment programs that are aligned to the strategic priorities of the information officer’s office.
  • Direct the development and operationalization of new services as they are added to the LCCI TECH@LILLY portfolio for the sub-function, including partnering with technical leaders within the LCCI TECH@LILLY and global functional TECH@LILLY areas to ensure appropriate architectural patterns, governance and quality process, and service scalability objectives are achieved and maintained
  • Provide supervision / people management to Associate Directors and Senior Managers within their organization
  • Partner with Business Units architects, technologists, and service area leadership to establish and execute against an ongoing engineering excellence program focusing on continuous improvement
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to others within the sub-function to enhance the team’s ongoing technical development and understanding of LCCI TECH@LILLY technologies, services, quality and security compliance standards, and methodologies.

Required Experience:


  • Strong background and breadth of IT experience across technical domains
  • Total of 15-20 years of relevant post qualification experience in IT and related areas, of which minimum 5+ years of proven technology leadership experience
  • Experience with systems development life cycle and structured programming methods (both traditional and agile), including requirements definition, solution design, program development, testing, documentation, training, deployment, operations, support and maintenance.
  • Solid experience in implementing new age technologies including Cloud Computing (ex: AWS, Google Cloud, Azure), Robotic Process Automation (Ex: Automation Anywhere), Core Development, Technology Operations and Maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of Agile, DevOps, DevSecOps, Site Reliability Engineering, ITIL & ITSM is mandatory.
  • Ability to drive partnership between multiple geographically separate organizations, groups and business partners to scale existing IT services as well as deliver new enterprise class services
  • Experience leading a team of enterprise class technologists designing and delivering new IT services leveraging modern cloud platforms and patterns. Proven experience in building IT strategies and services to meet critical business requirements
  • Ability to communicate proactively, and manage and influence a diverse set of IT and business stakeholders in a geographically distributed organization
  • Ability to appropriately and effectively challenge to reduce complexity of strategies and solutions

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build professional networks with diverse groups of individuals and to work effectively within geographically dispersed teams and partners
  • Focus on shared learning and best practices. Experience across a broad range of IT domains, including
  • Experience in software development on modern PaaS technologies such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
  • Experience in cloud-based data services, cloud-based infrastructure services and patterns
  • Possess a positive and energetic attitude, with a view to moving the business forward. Strong self-management and ability to work in ambiguity

Additional preferences:


  • Certifications in the area of Cloud, Software Architecture, IT Service Management, Agile etc., preferred.
  • Willingness to travel (15%)
