Position Summary: 


We are currently looking for an exceptional Database Engineer, to join our mission, to improve human health by unlocking the power of the genome.


As Database Engineer, you will be responsible for the SQL Server management of highly available and resilient database infrastructure on on-premises and cloud platform, preferably AWS. You will have considerable experience in a Cloud Infrastructure DB Engineering role, working on a regional scope, preferably within a fast-paced multinational organization. You will excel in deployment, support, and the management of multiple database servers platforms.  


You will be able to provide knowledge and expertise in administration, configuration, optimization, and monitoring of database servers at scale. Essentially, you will be able to work in a dynamic, collaborative regional team and will be comfortable liaising with internal and external stakeholders. 


Responsibilities will include: 


  • Being part of the team’s 24/7/365 global support of on-premises and cloud DB servers in a follow-the-sun model; provide on-call support responsibilities.
  • Monitor & measure the performance & availability of platform proactively, and implement automated corrective actions identified to improve performance & availability.
  • Collaborate with partner support teams to remediate production issues with high urgency.
  • Collaborate with the IT Security and Engineering teams to audit, document, and support RBAC on the platform.
  • Conduct root cause analysis & implement and develop automated pro-active measures. Monitor effectiveness of implemented measures.
  • Support multiple CI/CD database releases and deployments.
  • Support development teams for enhancements, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
  • Use and improve workflows and procedures to ensure consistency and auditability in a managed database infrastructure.
  • Use the database platform automation in Sprint cycles.
  • Work within and enforce security and regulatory compliance procedures.
  • Developing, managing and testing database backup and recovery plans. Perform database preventive maintenance and execute annual DR exercise.

Preferred background, skills, and experience:


  • 3+ years of database administration experience supporting MS SQL Server, (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB is a plus).
  • Knowledge of SQL programming is mandatory.
  • Experience with compliance/security controls for database systems.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting DB servers’ problems and performance.
  • Knowledge of cloud database platforms, preferably AWS.
  • Knowledge of DBMS/Warehouse concepts and technologies.
  • 3+ years of expertise with Windows and SQL Server platforms (Linux is a plus).

Education: 


  • Bachelor’s degree in computer sciences or related technical discipline
  • Microsoft SQL Server Certification is preferred.
