Who You Are: 


The Data Management Specialist, with expertise in Informatica CDGC (Common Data Governance and Compliance), is responsible for ensuring the proper management, governance, and compliance of data assets within our organization. This role involves implementing and maintaining data governance best practices and tools to ensure data quality, integrity, and security. You take pride knowing your work enables innovation and helping Sanofi build better solutions.

Job Highlights:


This role is for ensuring the integrity, reliability, and regulatory compliance of data systems used in drug development, clinical trials, manufacturing, and other critical processes. This role involves developing and implementing data quality frameworks, overseeing data governance, and ensuring robust data observability practices are in place to monitor data health and performance. The director will work closely with data engineering, data science, regulatory, and business teams to ensure that data is accurate, accessible, secure, and compliant with industry regulations, thereby enabling informed decision-making across the organization.


Key Responsibilities


Strategic Leadership


  • Develop and execute a comprehensive data quality and observability strategy data observability frameworks and tools to monitor data health, data quality, and data pipeline performance, in alignment with data governance strategy of Sanofi
  • Lead initiatives to enhance data quality, including the establishment of data quality metrics, standards, and best practices specific to pharmaceutical data.
  • Advocate for data observability and quality across the organization, fostering a data-driven culture.
  • Create automated alerting systems to detect data anomalies, outages, and performance issues.
  • Establish and maintain dashboards and reporting systems to provide real-time visibility into the state of data systems.
    Maintain documentation of data observability processes, tools, and standards.

Data Quality Management


  • Implement and maintain data quality frameworks to ensure the accuracy, completeness, consistency, and reliability of data used in drug development, clinical trials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct regular data quality assessments and audits to identify and address data issues, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards such as HIPAA, GDPR, GxP and other relevant bodies.
  • Develop and enforce data governance policies and procedures to maintain high data quality standards and regulatory compliance.

Data Observability


  • Oversee the implementation of data observability tools and platforms to monitor data pipelines and systems, ensuring real-time visibility into data health and performance.
  • Ensure real-time monitoring and alerting mechanisms are in place for data anomalies and performance issues, critical for compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools to provide visibility into data health and quality metrics, tailored to the needs of pharmaceutical operations.

Collaboration and Communication


  • Collaborate with data engineering, data science, regulatory, and business teams to understand data needs and ensure data quality and compliance requirements are met.
  • Communicate data quality and observability status, issues, and improvements to stakeholders, including senior leadership and regulatory bodies.
  • Train and mentor teams on data quality and observability practices, emphasizing the importance of compliance and data integrity.

Technical Expertise


  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in data quality and observability, particularly those relevant to the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience in Snowflake, Informatica Data Quality, or Observability tools like Monte Carlo or Sifflet
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies to enhance data quality and observability practices, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Provide technical guidance on data quality and observability to ensure best practices are followed in line with industry standards.

Risk Management


  • Identify potential data risks and implement mitigation strategies to prevent data quality issues, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to data quality and governance, including GDPR, HIPAA, GxP, and other relevant bodies.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for data quality incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure data security and compliance with relevant data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) by implementing access controls, encryption, and auditing mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with the Business stakeholders, vendors, product owners and third-party service providers to ensure data governance and management practices align with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with Program Management team to update project/program plan, report risks/issues, discuss mitigation strategy, program status
  • Create and maintain documentation on data processes, data models, and data flows for the organization.
  • Define and assign data stewards responsible for data domains, data ownership, and data-related responsibilities.
  • Conduct regular audits and monitoring of data catalog across various business units
  • Provide training and support to end-users and data stewards to promote data governance best practices and awareness.

Key Functional Requirements & Qualifications: 


  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in data management within the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role focusing on data quality and observability.
    • Proven track record of implementing data quality frameworks and observability tools in a regulated environment.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality management, and data observability principles, particularly in a pharmaceutical context.
    • Proficiency with data management tools and platforms such as Talend, Informatica, Collibra, Monte Carlo, or similar.
    • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
    • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
    • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in data management, data quality, or data governance, particularly within the pharmaceutical industry, are a plus.

Nice to haves: 


  • Experience working in life sciences/pharmaceutical industry is a plus. 
  • Certification in Informatica IDQ, CDQ or similar data management tools is a plus
  • Deep understanding of regulatory requirements in the pharmaceutical industry, including HIPAA, GDPR, GxP, and other relevant guidelines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with cloud data platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is preferred.
  • Understanding of AI/machine learning and its implications for data quality and observability in the pharmaceutical industry is a plus.
