About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Data Engineering Leader to manage and guide an offshore team in the development and maintenance of a modern cloud-based data Lakehouse. As the Data Engineering Leader, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful ingestion, curation, and distribution of data across critical business applications.
In this role, you will utilize your expertise in Databricks, Python, SQL, and cloud-based technologies to deliver data solutions that drive business outcomes. You will be responsible for overseeing data pipeline development, maintaining data governance standards, and mentoring your team to ensure high-quality, maintainable code.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage an offshore technical team, collaborating with onshore teams.
- Actively participate in writing, reviewing, and maintaining code daily.
- Ensure adherence to data governance policies while managing data pipelines.
- Develop and manage new and existing data pipelines, ensuring they align with business needs.
- Provide mentorship to junior engineers and conduct regular code reviews.
- Engage with the Head of Engineering to ensure alignment on platform strategy and roadmap.
- Oversee the integration and management of data notebooks within pipelines.
- Manage software engineers with the assistance of the Head of Engineering, if applicable.
Required Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in data engineering or a related role.
- Expertise in Databricks and cloud-based data Lakehouse technologies.
- Strong knowledge of Azure Data Lake, Parquet, and Delta tables.
- Experience with Structured and Semi-Structured datasets and ELT/ETL processes.
- Proficient in programming languages such as Python, SQL, R.
- Experience with Azure Data Factory or similar data ingestion tools.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools such as PowerBI or Spotfire.
- Strong experience with CI/CD concepts and Azure DevOps (or similar tools).
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both engineers and business partners.
- Experience leading, mentoring, and growing technical teams.
