CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT MANAGER
COLUMBIA CITY, IN
As a member of the Plant Leadership Team, the Continuous Improvement Manager will be responsible for planning and directing activities concerned with development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for industrial processes, materials, and products by performing the following duties. The Continuous Improvement/Lean Facilitator is part of the Quality department and reports to the Quality Manager.
The Role:
Your work will include, but not be limited to:
- Implement 6-8 Continuous Improvement (e.g., Lean and Six Sigma) projects per year that positively impact the overall performance of the facility.
- Mentor peers and middle management in the formulation and execution of process improvement projects.
- Network with experts at the plant and with other Lear/IMA/AA Black Belts around the world for the benefit of the company.
- Teach local personnel to apply Continuous Improvement (e.g., Lean and Six Sigma) strategies and tools.
- Lead line-of-sight or cross-functional process improvement teams.
- Coach local personnel through one-on-one support.
- Disseminate new strategies and tools via training, workshops, case studies, local symposia, etc.
- Discover internal and external (i.e., suppliers and customers) application opportunities for the breakthrough strategy.
- Surface business opportunities through partnerships with other organizations.
- Influence the organization by promoting the use of breakthrough strategy and tools.
- Facilitator of our self-directed work teams.
- Conduct training to self-directed work teams on multiple topics.
- Actively participate in self-directed work team model.
- Ability to work overtime as needed.
- Follow ISO14001 and IATF 16949 procedures/processes.
- Participate in plant recycling programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Contribute to the achievement of quality/management objectives by ensuring optimizing such things as material flow, packaging, etc.… through Continuous Improvement projects.
- Be knowledgeable of all plant safety rules and ensure all employees perform their duties in compliance with the rules and regulations.
- Take every reasonable precaution for the protection of the employees.
- Insist that safe work procedures be established, and the employees follow these procedures and apply good judgment to the hazardous aspects of all tasks.
- Participate in regular tours of the plant to observe health and safety conditions and provide positive reinforcement and instruction.
- Ensure that prompt corrective action is taken whenever hazards are recognized, or unsafe acts are observed.
- Take part in the employee participation system and support other employees in their assigned roles under the health and safety program.
- Report all accidents, unsafe conditions, and acts to your supervisor immediately.
- Consider your job tasks effectively performed only if done safely.
- Actively participate in the health and safety program.
- It is the responsibility of the Continuous Improvement/Lean Facilitator to take appropriate action and to effectively communicate where necessary and observations which may impact AA LLC’s ability to manufacture a quality product and to achieve an on-time delivery. Individual actions which should be considered are as follows:
- Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformances related to product, process, and quality systems.
- Identify and record any problems related to the product, process, and quality system.
- Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels.
- Verify implementation of solutions.
- Control further processing, delivery, or installation of nonconforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
Your Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA); two plus years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer literacy is required. Minitab experience preferred.
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distributions, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or board of directors.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Bonus If You Have:
- Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma Black Belt certification preferred.
