Project Overview:


Bechtel's responsibility is for the design and construction of two semiconductor fabrication (fab) facilities at a greenfield site located in New Albany, Ohio-- approximately 20 miles northeast of Columbus, Ohio. 


The selected site has been sized to support the construction of four new semiconductor fabs within the campus. The Cardinal Project is Phase 1 which covers the first two fabs and includes: 


  • Completion of the Fab/Process Specific Support Systems (PSSSs) and PSSS yards, 
  • Boiler Chiller Packages (BCPs), 
  • Ultra-Pure Water (UPW), Wastewater Treatment (WWT) building and yards, 
  • Site Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) conveyance trestles. 

Job Summary:


The Construction Coordinator (CC) serves as a vital link between Construction and other project functions like Engineering, Supply Chain, Contracts and Project Controls. The CC ensures that Construction requirements are communicated to the project team and project team receives Construction’s input in a timely manner, will be responsible for the home office construction coordination including constructability, ensuring safety in design, value engineering, providing construction’s input to engineering and supply chain teams that improves Total Installed Cost (TIC) on the project.


Major Responsibilities:


  • Provides Construction recommendations on piping and mechanical installation aspects of work.
  • Coordinates with all team members in generating and developing approved Constructability ideas and plans.
  • Prepares and may lead Constructability awareness training, especially on piping and mechanical installation and its testing at project sites.
  • Contributes to construction related design decisions by providing Construction’s perspective to schedules, piping and mechanical design deliverables, equipment purchases, degree of shop fabrication, and equipment delivery configuration and sequence.
  • Participates in design development and suggest economical construction details for incorporation into the design and specifications by utilizing Construction Lessons Learned from other projects and best practices.
  • Identifies potential problem areas or trends in piping & mechanical design, layouts, design details, develops total installed cost estimates for proposed alternate methods and address continuous improvement.
  • Coordinates constructability issues on vendor drawings, shop fabrication details, construction procedures, especially on equipment pre-assembly at site or maximizing shop assembly, identifying potential challenges involved equipment and pipe spools shipping, loading and unloading at site.
  • Ensures Constructability logs maintenance and follow up on closure of construability issues
  • Maintains and ensures effective interface between Home Office construction team and jobsite team ensuring construction’s requirements are communicated to Engineering team including ensuring Engineering deliverables are issued to support the construction schedule.
  • Contributes to 3D Model reviews, interdisciplinary coordination reviews of design drawings and ensuring design is safe, constructible, and cost effective.
  • Understands work breakdown structure and prepares Construction Engineering deliverables on the project such as, piping work packages, piping rest packages and Mechanical equipment installation packages
  • Implements “Design for Safe Construction” process. Supports construction productivity initiatives on the project, including effective implementation of datacentric construction and other construction innovations
  • Monitors completeness of engineering data in construction applications.

Education and Experience Requirements:


  • Grade 25: Typically requires bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or international equivalent) and min 10 years of relevant experience, or 12 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Grade 26: Typically requires bachelor's degree Mechanical Engineering (or international equivalent) and min 12 years of relevant experience, or 14 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Proven construction experience on large industrial projects in in all type of piping systems and mechanical equipment is mandatory.
  • An experience on piping and mechanical construction of process plants, chemical plants, pharmaceutical plants, or data center is essential to effectively support proposed role.
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.3 and industry codes that are typically referred during construction and testing of piping and mechanical system is mandatory.   
  • Knowledge of current international, especially construction industry trends is essential to effectively support proposed role.  
  • Strong leadership skills, communication and ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work with multiple nationalities.
  • Technical knowledge of all phases of piping and mechanical equipment installation, construction engineering including its interfacing with all other areas is essential.
  • Prior experience working in a field engineering or field supervision position in an organization supporting direct-hire work /subcontract is preferred.
  • Proficient in reading drawings, interpret design, specifications and industry codes & standards.
