Good Business Lab is an independent, non-profit labor innovation company. We use rigorous academic research to prove that worker well-being programs have business impacts. We develop market-ready, scalable interventions that benefit both workers and businesses. The founders of the lab are Ach Adhvaryu - Professor of Economics and Director of 21st Century India Center at the School of Global Policy and Strategy, UC San Diego (www.achadhvaryu.com), Anant Ahuja-head of Organization Development at Shahi Exports Pvt. Ltd., and Anant Nyshadham- Assistant Professor of Business Economics and Public Policy at the University of Michigan (www.anantnyshadham.com).
Length of Commitment: 4 months, if required the contract can be extended on mutual agreement
Location: Bengaluru / Delhi
Remuneration: INR 60k-80k per month depending on the work experience
Start Date: February 2025
Role Summary
We're looking for a Consultant (Climate transition & Livelihoods) to plan and lead the design of GBL's climate portfolio projects. This portfolio of work involves field visits to relevant areas, qualitative interviews, and extensive data collection and analysis. Moving forward, the project will focus on building evidence based on the work done so far. It will delve deeper into issues related to socio-economic development, energy transition, environmental conservation, and the social protection of marginalized groups, enhancing GBL’s advocacy for ‘Worker well-being’ as we advance climate action.

Qualification & Experience
(The areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role)
1. A graduate with a minimum of 5-6 years of work experience or a postgraduate with a minimum of 3-4 years of work experience in the livelihoods and climate action domain.
2. The work portfolio should reflect experience or expertise in climate change-related projects or livelihood development projects.
3. A degree in social sciences (Economics, Development Studies, International Development, Anthropology, Psychology, Behavioral Sciences, Sociology, Social Work, Service design, systems design, environmental studies etc.) or allied areas.
Also, we know it’s tough, but please try to avoid the confidence gap. You don’t have to match all the listed requirements exactly to be considered for this role.
Roles & Responsibilities

1. Consultant (Climate transition & Livelihoods) will be responsible for developing design-led programs with existing and new stakeholders around GBL’s key research areas.
2. Generate clear ideas, concepts, reports and outcomes, working closely with a growing team of economists, development practitioners, designers and labour industry experts.
3. Work in an advising capacity on livelihood development projects related to climate change to enhance the quality of work and build evidence through research implementation.
4. The role requires an understanding of systemic change, social enterprises, a creative approach to solving complex problems and acumen for evidence creation for scale.
5. Actively participate in and conduct brainstorming sessions for ideation and prototyping of solutions using a participatory design approach.
6. Connect the GBL team with the civil societies, NGOs, communities, Experts and enterprises to create a knowledge base and field research Create and oversee the creation of reports of the work undertaken and other outcome collaterals.
Any other tasks or responsibilities as needed to ensure the successful completion of the project and meet evolving project needs.
