As UOPIPL grows, it will continue to offer “engineering & delivery” of modular products (like Mod Merox, Mod CCR, Mod Recovery Plus etc) to its customers on a worldwide basis while adding to its portfolio from UOP’s wide range of technologies (like Mod PENEX, Mod NHT, Mod Platforming etc). As a part of IPL’s growth plans, there exists a role for an Engineer – Instrumentation. Below is a description of the roles & responsibilities for this position.
DIRECTLY ACCOUNTABLE for:
Entire detailed engineering process consisting of preparation of engineering deliverables related to Control and Instrumentation Engineering (like data sheets, calculations, technical specifications, design specific QA/ QC requirements etc) while ensuring compliance to UOP’s technical specifications + processes & procedures.
Pre-bid engineering and estimation, including preparation of Instrumentation BOMs.
Instrumentation knowledge for Packaged Items (e.g. Compressors, Air Fin Coolers, Electrostatic coalescer etc.)
Entire procurement process consisting of preparation of material/ purchase requisitions (for bids, for ordering, for costing exercises, design specific QA/ QC requirements etc); conducting evaluation of vendor bids including liquidating of TQ’s etc; conducting review of vendor engineering deliverables (like data sheets, drawings etc); guiding vendor thro’ manufacturing until dispatch status; ensuring compliance to UOP’s technical specifications + processes & procedures etc.
Identifying inconsistencies and problems that may be present on P&IDs during the design phase and record changes on P&IDs in preparation for customer checks and official release.
Inspection and testing of control and instrumentation part of skids/modules during fabrication/ construction for conformance with project equipment requirements and applicable codes. This also includes Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) to ensure that the control system meets the specified functional requirements.
Shop check-out etc for individual components required by an UOP’s Equipment Product Line and for the assembled Unit(s) and supporting Field Services team for field activities (like field checkout, pre-commissioning/commissioning, start-up, collation of data for revamp opportunities, trouble-shooting etc)
Meeting expectations for delivering sales support and on-site technical services to customers for existing units etc.
Preparing/reviewing and/or approving various control and instrumentation related engineering documents either created by in-house engineering team or by a team from third party agencies.
Detailed engineering and production follow-up of automatic control valves, various types of instruments and control systems package (i.e. control cabinets with PLC’s, I/O cards, barriers, drives etc).
Ensuring to meet customer satisfaction requirements, including UOP Quality standards and UOP Technical Standards.
Actively participating to ensure that ISO 9001 certification is maintained.
Providing input and participating in vendor performance evaluation reviews, project close-out reports and subsequent meetings. Acting on applicable specialist group-related RCA’s (root cause analysis) for CAPA’s (corrective & preventive actions) that come out of these reviews.
Addressing cross departmental issues, including specialist engineering issues related to Equipment integration with other UOP technologies and with other UOP Equipment Offices (International Alignment).
Providing deliverables within budgeted cost and schedule at a high level of quality
Responding quickly and accurately to internal and external Customer requests, adjusting to multiple demands and shifting priorities, and prioritizing tasks.
Communicating with project manager on a regular basis regarding progress, changes & schedule.
Keeping up-to-date with current technology developments in area of expertise and sharing this knowledge with others, where appropriate through leadership of Community of Practices.
Supporting and following corporate HS&E policies, in relation to Office & Field Safety practices and engineering design policies.

Unique Department Competencies
Relevant experience in detailed engineering for Control and Instrumentation discipline for the petroleum refining & petrochemical industry
Candidate shall have an excellent knowledge of Principles, Practices and Procedures related to control and instrumentation engineering.
Experience in Design, Selection, Sizing and Application of various field instruments & Analyzers for turnkey projects. Experience shall include preparation of specifications, datasheets, requisitioning, technical procurement, inspection and testing and FAT of various instrumentation related components including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). Candidate shall also have an experience in production follow-up of different PLC-based control systems, Field support and troubleshooting.
Experience/ Knowledge of inter-disciplinary linkages & interdependencies.
Understanding of Equipment Design and Fabrication techniques, standards and tools.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to be used at the International level with colleagues worldwide.
