Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Works under general supervision to complete complex BIM or Plant Data Centric assignments.
  • Utilizes multiple application platforms, such as Revit, Intergraph SmartPlant, Plant 3D, etc., to achieve set results and meet deadlines.
  • Provides training and technical support to design staff on the Building Information Modeling system, which provides 3D models using project specifications and content.
  • Creates and maintains detailed 3D models of HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment placement.
  • Collaborates with mechanical engineers and other disciplines to ensure proper coordination and clash detection in BIM models.
  • Develops and implements BIM standards and best practices specific to HVAC design within the organization.
  • Performs quantity take-offs and generates schedules from BIM models to support cost estimation and project planning.
  • Conducts quality control checks on BIM models to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Participates in client meetings and presentations to communicate design concepts and solutions effectively.
  • Stays current with the latest BIM software updates, HVAC industry trends, and energy efficiency standards.
  • Mentors junior designers and provides guidance on BIM tools and HVAC design principles.
  • Assists in the development of custom families and content libraries for HVAC components.
  • Contributes to the continuous improvement of BIM processes and workflows within the organization.
  • Supports the integration of BIM data with facility management systems for post-construction use.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements


  • BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field + 2 YORE or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Proficiency in BIM software, particularly Revit, with a focus on HVAC systems modeling
  • Strong understanding of HVAC design principles and industry standards
  • Experience with clash detection and coordination in multi-disciplinary BIM projects
  • Familiarity with other BIM platforms such as Intergraph SmartPlant or Plant 3D
  • Excellent 3D visualization and spatial reasoning skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform quality control checks
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with engineers and presenting to clients
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency standards and sustainable design practices in HVAC
  • Ability to create and modify custom families and content libraries for HVAC components

Preferred Qualifications


  • Professional certification such as ASHRAE or LEED
  • Experience with quantity take-offs and cost estimation from BIM models
  • Knowledge of facility management systems and their integration with BIM data
  • Proven track record of implementing BIM standards and best practices
  • Experience mentoring junior designers in BIM tools and HVAC design principles
