Job Summary:
We're seeking an experienced L2 Backup Operations Engineer to drive our global technical operations of Backups within our Infrastructure Hosting Platform. You'll be at the forefront of developing and supporting the engineering and operations of Storage and Backup Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) capabilities hosted both on-premises and in Public Cloud.
If you have a strong background in Backup administration, an understanding of various Storage services, and thrive in large, geographically dispersed enterprise environments, this role is for you. You'll work with our most critical infrastructure, supporting sites in multi-datacenter stretch clusters. Our goal is to enhance infrastructure availability and reliability through repeatable patterns, innovative architectural designs, and improved observability to prevent outages and drive value across the organization.
In this role, you'll provide technical expertise and leadership, guiding operations teams and collaborating with other platform infrastructure SMEs to deliver daily operations effectively.
YourResponsibilities:
Provide L2 operational support and services for backup and recovery, high availability architecture, and data replication for disaster recovery.
Leads and coordinates the Backup (Data Domain/Avamar/PPDM/Cloud Native) technical and business discussions related to day t day operations and break-fix across the product portfolio or product line.
Deep knowledge on Backup software integration/configuration with most commonly used applications in industry (e.g. Backing up SQL, Oracle, VMWare, NAS shares etc)
Assist in troubleshooting and root cause analysis for issues as they arise.
Design complete Backup, Restore strategy, configuration of Backups- Full/Incremental/Image/Sub-file and troubleshooting.
Familiarity with various encryption technologies (for both Data At Rest and in-transit) and ensuring compliance.
Writes and maintains complete and concise technical documentation.
One or more- Scripting and development languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash or Perl)
Work closely with business units, application teams, and other IT departments to address requirements, dependencies, and operational needs. Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing updates on operational performance, projects, and incidents.
Incident & Change Management - Manage incident resolution and root cause analysis for critical server issues. Oversee change management processes, ensuring minimal impact to production environments.
What you will bring to the table:
Complete familiarity with Disaster Recovery (DR) and backup technologies including design and implementation of Geographically Dispersed HA/DR.
Must have experience managing, optimizing, and upgrading backup environment and its schedules strategies.
Strong experience in managing and supporting enterprise systems in a highly virtualized and hybrid data centres spanning across the globe.
Sound knowledge on Data Domain, DDVE, Avamar, PPDM and Cloud native backup solutions
Experience communicating at various levels including non-technical staff, leadership, management, and stakeholders.
Strong proven skills in ITIL framework (Especially, Incident, Problem and Change management)
Familiarity withvarious Agile methodologies esp. Scrum and Kanban
Knowledge Linux/Unix, VMware system/servers are a plus.
Soft Skills
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to handle complex technical challenges.
Proven leadership and team management experience, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Your Qualification:
Bachelor’s degree in information technology or equivalent experience.
6-8 years of experience in enterprise-class storage and data protection services
Additional Information:
Role located in Hyderabad (relocation required)
Availability to work flexible work hours is/may be required. This team will support continuous operations across two shifts and therefore, this role will require non-standard work hours, and some work on weekends and holidays.
