Are you interested in using technology to automate and transform business processes?

The Tech@Lilly Automation Strategy and Operations team is seeking to add an Automation Platform Engineer role to the team. Working with the Service Delivery Lead, this role will have a systems support and service reliability focus implementing and managing IBM Business Automation Workflow (BAW) and Operational Decision Manager (ODM) application architecture, providing support for critical business applications hosted within both on-prem and containerized BPM instances, and designing solutions that make real impact to how Lilly delivers medicine to patients. Are you innovative and curious about new technology that can make business processes easy and more efficient? Come join our team!

What You’ll Be Doing:

In this position, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day technical and administrative support for automated systems, troubleshooting issues related to automation tools, processes and infrastructure, and ensuring smooth operation of automated workflows, collaborating with development teams to identify and resolve problems. This role often includes tasks like maintaining documentation, managing lifecycle applications through upgrades and patching needs, and monitoring automation performance across various systems.

How You’ll Succeed:
  • As an automation platforms engineer, your expertise in specific automation platforms like IBM automation tools such as BAW (Business Automation Workflow), ODM (Operational Decision Management), BWL (Blueworks Live), and custom automation frameworks will allow you to lead operations and lifecycle management projects with global impact
  • With an approach that accepts failure, and ability to work in ambiguity, you will provide technical assistance to end users experiencing problems on our IBM platforms, explaining complex technical concepts and identifying root causes of errors within your portfolio, as well as upstream or downstream applications that may be affecting them
  • Using your problem-solving skills, you will strive to quickly identify and correct bottlenecks and analyze complex technical issues via incident management, ensuring automation processes and applications adhere to relevant compliance regulations, change control, and system design lifecycle standards at Lilly
  • With an attention to detail and proactivity you will seek to maintain existing applications via debugging and continuous updates, ensuring performance metrics are captured for optimization and system reliability
  • As a superb communicator with strong interpersonal skills, you will work and collaborate effectively across support, development, and platforms teams globally to document user guides, troubleshooting steps, and best practices
What You Should Bring:
  • Incident Management & Operations Support experience in an enterprise IBM Cloudpak for Business Automation environment (BAW, ODM, and BWL)
    • Hands-on experience in native UI framework, Process Modeling, System Tasks, Websphere Application Server (WAS) and Toolkit using Business Process Designs standards
  • Experience managing applications and infrastructure within IBM BAW/ODM/ACE [GG1] suite, in both on-prem and SAAS implementations of IBM solutions reliant on AWS or Azure infrastructure
  • Ability to triage and analyze defects in production environments, handling P1 and P2 critical issues on infrastructure, MQ Series messaging middleware, and external integrations consuming RESTful and SOAP based webservices interacting with external systems
  • Demonstrated experience coding within various JS frameworks (Java/Javascript), Process Modules, SCA modules, business rules, and error handling
  • Strong experience in root cause analysis (RCA) and implementing long-term solutions relating to but not limited to BPM release management and deployment strategies
  • Experience with system and support analysis tools such as Splunk and Postman, allowing you to monitor performance and uptime while optimizing performance and continuously improving the user experience
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis (using techniques like 5 Whys, fishbone diagrams, or fault tree analysis) within an ITIL framework to identify and address the underlying causes of quality issues as well as regular service reviews to gauge customer satisfaction and identify areas for process and support improvements
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related technical field
  • 5+ years experience in technical role focusing on supporting Automation portfolio applications including:
    • Experience in our basic platform needs: IBM BAW, ODM, BWL, ACE [GG2] and using strong code/snapshot management best practices (previous industry terms BPM/BPMN or similar IBM Automation Platform experience will also qualify)
    • Hands-on API experience and knowledge of Restful API design patterns as well as basic test automation tools and frameworks
    • Experience with cloud (Azure, AWS, GCP), CI/CD pipeline, and Java/Javascript

[GG1]same comment as above, IBM BPM is the older product (prior to BAW) - so if you are going to call it out or DBPA, you will have to distinguish between the IBM product and generic BPM/BPMN experience
