Role Accountabilities
- Provide Technical leadership for substation Physical designs within the multi-discipline engineering team in the Electrical Transmission and Distribution market with key clients being Transmission Owners, Distribution Network Operators, Onshore and Offshore Windfarms and large industrial clients
- Being a senior technical authority on Main Plant engineering within the wider company
- Be a lead technical role on substation Physical design project deliverables, ranging from 12.47kV up to 230kV (with a particular emphasis on 138kV voltages and above), including undertaking the role of Lead Engineer on project teams, as required and when appropriate.
- Produce detailed substation Physical design packages, compliant with the required client and national technical standards.
- Prepare calculations and technical/equipment specification documentation.
- Execute complex assignments requiring the use of advanced techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment, and/or technological methods.
- Undertake consultancy role on FEED stage projects, including production of technical reports and presentations.
- Maintain compliance to CDM Regulations and all other legal and regulatory requirements associated with the nature of substation and electrical system design.
- Provide technical leadership of a team of specialist electrical system substation Physical engineers in transmission and distribution substations from 12.47kV through to 230kV in the US and as required when supporting international Arcadis projects.
- Coordinate and manage the delivery of protection and control designs in line with Client expectations
- Responsible for technical delivery of staff assignments to clients and large-size projects.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 15 years of substation Physical design experience in the electricity transmission & distribution sector, with at least 7 of those years being on US transmission system-related projects.
- Knowledge of engineering design management best practices with the ability to implement this knowledge
- Understanding of the requirements of relevant US Health & Safety legislation relating to design and construction work in the electricity supply industry.
- Thorough understanding of current Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.
- Experience working in a lead substation design role in the US.
- Good working knowledge of policies and procedures.
- Thorough knowledge and experience applying IEEE, NEC, ANSI NFPA, OSHA and Client Technical Specification, Technical Guidance Notes, and Design Handbooks relating to substation Physical design in the US.
- Knowledge of applying CAD technology/software to substation design
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
- Strong persuasion and negotiation skills with clients and employees.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders across clients, industry, government and public.
- Able to manage tasks on multiple projects and conflicting deadlines.
- Able to work autonomously and/or as part of a project team.
- Proactive in building knowledge and understanding of the electricity transmission and distribution industry.
- Capability to coach, develop and record CPD and encourage others in the team to do so
- Engaged in the engineering community and how we can drive success for our clients.
