Role Description

BlackRock is seeking an expert Quantitative Researcher / Portfolio Manager with a strong technical background, and ideally experience in multi-asset investing, to lead our five-person research team in Gurgaon, India. Deep experience with Python programming is a requirement for the role, and experience with multi-asset portfolio construction is a strong plus. The team partners closely with BlackRock’s Model Portfolio Solutions and Outsourced CIO businesses within its Multi-Asset Strategies and Solutions group.


The role will involve providing technology and research support to BlackRock’s global model businesses, while working with Jio-BlackRock to develop BlackRock’s India asset-management business. Success in the position requires significant experience in data science, optimization techniques, and financial technology, along with a solid grounding in the principles of quantitative finance, ideally evidenced by an advanced degree, though this is not required.  In addition, the candidate should possess the ability to collaborate effectively with a global team of researchers and portfolio managers across the wider BlackRock community, and should possess strong communication and people-management skills.


Key Responsibilities
  • Direct the team’s support of the research technology platform for our global model portfolio and solutions businesses.
  • Partner with the global MPS team on technical aspects of investment, product, and implementation research projects.
  • Coordinate interaction with Jio-BlackRock, the joint venture BlackRock has launched with Jio in India. The team is developing and helping to run the model portfolios offered by Jio-BlackRock.
  • Direct the India Core Research team’s program in original, implementable financial research that generates alpha for our clients.
  • Implement impactful insights in multi-asset investment portfolios, and deliver investment performance that meets or exceeds client expectations.
  • Work together with the BlackRock Investment Institute to develop and disseminate capital market assumptions for India.
  • Facilitate teamwork between the team and the other Multi-Asset Strategy and Solutions teams based in Gurgaon, and with wider BlackRock.
  • Remain current on developments in local and global financial markets and economics.
  • Develop investment insights for India and participate in relevant regional and global research meetings.
  • Collaborate on the development of new products and solutions for Indian and global investors.
  • Build partnerships and strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required, and postgraduate degree/CFA/FRM preferred.
  • 4-6 years’ experience in the finance industry with a focus on quantitative investing and/or investment research technology.
  • Familiar with Bloomberg, solid programming skills and experience, Python language preferred. Ability to direct a team of impactful investment professionals with strong technical backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of both fundamental and quantitative investment theory and practice a plus.
  • Creativity and capability to move ideas from inception to market.
  • Familiarity with India’s financial markets & regulations, including equity, bond, and derivative markets, a plus.
  • Successful investment track record, experience with asset-allocation both pluses.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; fluency in English is necessary for success.
