About this role


We are recruiting for the newly formed Core Risk Management (Core RM) group, part of the Risk & Quantitative Analysis (RQA) group, which provides independent oversight of BlackRock’s fiduciary and enterprise risks globally.


Core RM is responsible to advance risk management at BlackRock, delivering scale and resilience to the risk management platform. This opportunity is to be part of the Core Risk Analytics team within Core RM, which will work with Investment Risk Managers and other BlackRock teams across the globe to solve business problems through data analytics, automation, and technology solutions. The team will deliver on demand risk reporting, analytics and algorithms that enable risk management at scale and will comprise of data engineers and data / risk analysts with strong coding skills.


What you will be doing

Being a technical specialist within the Core Risk Analytics team and working on several technology initiatives


  • Developing scalable analytics reporting capabilities capable of servicing risk reporting needs across multiple investment risk teams
  • Design and deliver risk scanning algorithms in partnership with Investment Risk and Core Risk Oversight - allowing at-scale baseline risk management at BlackRock
  • Designing and upholding Core Risk Analytics processes and procedures including RQA’s SDLC principles, coding standard methodologies, scalable Python coding – allowing at-scale on-demand risk analytics delivery to partners – in line with standard processes and policies of the firm.
  • Collaborating with Core RM leaders to develop deep relationships with investment risk leads and technology partners globally. Understanding and aligning with their mission.
  • Consistently acting as a scale operator, driving efficiency and capacity-building initiatives, including automation/ standardization efforts across the risk platform.

What will your team be doing?


Collaborating with risk managers and technology teams globally to deliver risk analytics and reporting solutions to inform risk management engagements across all of BlackRock’s Portfolio Management teams, leadership committees and boards.


  • Analysing functional and technical requirements to identify the right analytical / reporting solutions to deliver scale, standard process, and resilience to the risk platform, while ensuring output is fit for purpose.
  • Providing risk analytics report production support to Global RQA teams.
  • Focusing on data engineering, with expertise in Python coding, scheduling, and data visualization.
  • Providing regular and thorough production status reporting.
  • Understanding flow of information and data between various groups and systems.
  • Being accountable for data, technology, and QC provisioned by Core RM for RQA.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and running multiple high priority tasks with senior management visibility.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.
  • Flexible work schedule.
  • 4+ years of proven experience in an Engineering/Financial Engineering division in a financial services firm.
  • B. Tech / B.E. / Masters. degree in an engineering subject area
  • Programming (Python, SQL etc.) and data analytics expertise.
  • Experience working within Agile frameworks (including tooling such as Azure DevOps)
  • Experience with PowerBI and/or Tableau
  • Prior experience working with R, R-Shiny and/or VBA is a plus
