This position is a senior technical position in the Application Health and Tuning (AHT) Team. This team is part of the SMBF Core Services - Shared Platform group which supports applications in the Global Functions Technology (GFT) and other sectors of Citigroup. This team partners with System DBA organization and provides Application-specific Database Support in areas of Performance Tuning, platform migration/adoption of DB-as-a-Service offerings, exit of non-strategic DB platforms, etc. The Database technologies we support in the team include Oracle/GoldenGate, Netezza, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB and Snowflake.
This position is for an experienced professional who is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Oracle and other database/data warehousing technologies. Excellent communication & presentation skills are required, often at a senior level, and to both technical and non-technical audience.
Responsibilities:
- Will be part of a team of Application Health and Tuning (AHT) team to provide comprehensive support, strategic direction & guidance to application teams regarding troubleshooting, performance tuning, design, and architecture of database systems.
- Work with the rest of the AHT team to perform thorough root-cause-analysis of problems and to adopt preventive measures. Finds ways to assess and improve the design of the existing programs, to optimize performance, reduce risk and to improve flexibility / resiliency. Provides in-depth analysis with interpretive thinking to define problems and develop innovative solutions.
- Leads the team to proactively monitor databases of critical GFT Applications, database health checks and takes preventive remediation measures to prevent/mitigate any business impact.
- Solves the highest impact, highest profile problems with significant impact through in-depth evaluation of complex business processes, system processes and industry standards.
- Influences and negotiates with senior application team members (across functions). Demonstrates and inculcates the mindset of data-driven decision making.
- Communicates and negotiates with Software Vendors as well as with Managed Service Vendors for best value for Citi.
- Assesses risk and advises appropriately as business/technology decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
- Responsible for resource management and allocation of work; acts as advisor or coach to new or junior level analysts.
- Partners with Engineering, Architecture, Vendors and Application teams to bring the best value from latest DB technology to the businesses.
- Performs other duties and functions as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years’ experience in an Application Support role specializing in multiple versions of Oracle (19c, 12c etc.) and/or IBM Netezza/NPS platforms.
- Subject matter expert in database Support, particularly with performance tuning, query plans and tuning, AWR reports, statistics, partitioning, indexing etc.
- Knowledge of related technologies like Oracle GoldenGate, RAC, Active Guard, Actifio, Rubrik, Guardium etc.
- Proven Problem-Solving experience in the Application Support space, particularly in the Database domain.
- Must keep up with the technology landscape in the Database domain, including shift toward the Cloud.
- Experience of communication (written as well as verbal), to seniors, directs and peers.
- Ability to balance multiple demands and work both independently and as part of a team to develop solutions.
- Ability to learn new database technologies and to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
This position will need to work with multiple partner organizations including:
- Database Engineering - for product features, enablement of those, and for rollout within the organization
- Application Teams and Application Support Teams - to understand their challenges and to help/guide them.
- System DBA Teams: For active and close collaboration on various topics of mutual interest, including current issues, risks, directions, etc.
- Middleware Teams: For diving deeper into issues involving interaction of Middleware with Data Base. Reporting Issues, load issues etc. are typical examples of issues that involve Middleware-DB interaction.
- Architecture Team: To plan and execute migration to strategic platforms of Data Bases.
Education:
- Bachelor’s/University degree preferred in Computer Science or Information Technology .
