Transport Manager Job Description

Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing the transportation operations of a company. They plan, direct, and coordinate transportation policies and programs, and oversee the work of transportation staff, such as private vehicles, commercial vehicles and logistics coordinators. Transportation Managers develop and implement transportation strategies to ensure efficient and cost-effective transportation operations. They also ensure compliance with transportation laws and regulations. This is a senior position that requires strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills. A successful Transportation Manager should have experience in transportation management, logistics, and supply chain management. They should also have a deep understanding of transportation technologies and industry trends.

This role reports to the Transport India Lead, which will be at the helm of all things related to transport network. In essence, it will provide uninterrupted transport service to our clients. Role will be ensuring that our fleet is available and on-the-go 24/7. It will also see to it that backup plans are in place should the need arise. The management transport will also be in close contact with our clients to better understand their needs, and to develop specific and efficient transport procedures that incur savings in the process.

We are looking for a detail-oriented Transportation Manager who will be responsible for overseeing the transportation department for our client. In this position, person will be expected to manage and coordinate the transportation system for the client.

The person will also be responsible for developing and implementing transportation policies and procedures, as well as managing transportation budgets and expenses.

• Develop and oversee transportation policies, procedures, and programs to ensure safe and efficient transportation operations.
• Manage and coordinate the transportation department's daily activities, including scheduling, routing, and dispatching of vehicles and drivers.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations related to transportation, including driver qualification, vehicle maintenance, and hours of service.
• Monitor transportation costs and identify opportunities for cost savings.
• Manage relationships with transportation vendors and negotiate contracts and rates.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure transportation needs are met, including coordinating with warehouse and distribution teams to ensure timely delivery of goods.
• Develop and maintain transportation performance metrics and reports, and use data to identify areas for improvement.
• Ensure that all transportation-related documentation, such as bills of lading and delivery receipts, are accurate and complete.
• Manage and develop transportation staff, including hiring, training, and performance management.
• Stay up to date on industry trends and best practices related to transportation management.

Qualifications Requirements

• Knowledge of safety and compliance regulations for transportation
• Ability to manage and coordinate multiple shipments and routes.
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Proficiency in transportation management software
• Strong leadership and team management skills
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to make decisions under pressure.
• Detail-oriented and able to maintain accurate records.
• Flexibility to work extended hours or weekends as needed.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record
• Knowledge of industry best practices and emerging trends in transportation management
