Job Description

We are looking for Windchill Architects to spearhead the Windchill development life cycle, from planning and prioritizing to testing and release of the business modules for ABS.


Windchill Architect responsibilities include understanding business requirements and system landscape to prepare cohesive business solution with due scalability, security and reliability, following the PTC lead best practices of Windchill data model. If you have hands-on experience in architecting Windchill solutions for complex environments within agile way of working and are ready to lead our Windchill implementation & maintenance, we have the right place for you.


What You Will Do:


  • Strong functional knowledge of Windchill processes & Modules, Windchill data model and understanding of business requirements including Windchill Document Management, Configuration and Change Management, PartsLink, Indexing, Visualization to leverage the respective configuration to fulfill the business requirements
  • Prepare detail solution design for the business requirements in Windchill with deep analysis of configuration vs customization, Windchill interfaces to other legacy applications with due impact analysis, scalability of the design with expected level of security
  • Prepare the PoCs in short time and have passion to provide details of the design to necessary stakeholders of ABS
  • Work closely with the Product Owners/Managers to timely seek the requirement details and build the holistic design for the requirement
  • Hands on java, javascript and related development knowledge of 10-15 years to be able to support the design / solution to key business stakeholders
  • In code review before the customization code is merged and should be able to provide technical guidance to the development team
  • Solving the Windchill configuration issues e.g. Queue Management, Performance issues, and guide the development team technically during the road blocks
  • Own and quick learner of the existing solutions and should have alternates to solution with the plan for de-customization
  • Be voice of ABS for the Windchill product issues and proactively work with PTC Technical Support and Technical teams for its resolution
  • Identify the risks in existing solutions. Prepare and present the improvements in the design in timely manner with the ABS stakeholders
  • Be attentive to the changes in the other applications in application landscape and participate in technical discussions to provide technical assistance

What You Will Need:


Education & Experience


  • Must have experience in complex Windchill deployment/implementations
  • Hands-on 12-18 years of Windchill customization experience including (but not limited to) Windchill data utilities, form validators, Windchill soft typing (Type and Attribute Manager), Windchill loader mechanism, ACLs, Workflow & LifeCycle configuration with necessary customization, JDBC connections and writing respecting query specs, following PTC lead best practices of API development and usage.
  • Expert level of database transaction understanding with the working knowledge of Windows and Linux OS
  • Windchill advanced configuration and installation with ability to resolve Windchill configuration issues as faced by team members
  • Experience in dealing with PTC Technical Support through the relevant issues/cases raised against PTC
  • Better communication skill – verbal and written

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


  • Knowledge of DevOps and related tools is must
  • Must have technical understanding of cloud environments
  • Should have best understanding of leveraging the Windchill configuration where necessary and not the customization
  • Adequate knowledge of Windchill loaders and OOTB utilities
  • Adequate understanding of Windchill JavaDoc, relevant APIs and supported methods with experience in mentoring the development team in time-to-time manner
  • Ownership with the customization and keen eye on scalability and reliability 
  • Have ability to create nifty utilities to ease the various processes including data migration, data loading to windchill, etc with great understanding of OData layer, building interfaces with Windchill REST API leverage
