UNIX System Administrator

The UNIX Platform role is a Server Administrator who is responsible for all platform tasks required to migrate servers or ports as part of migration events from old to new storage, switches or converged infrastructure.

The role requires the individual to be an experienced IT Professional who can work as part of a team or as an individual working with 3rd Party Suppliers and Customer Teams to support migrations across different workstreams.
 
This role requires the successful candidate to be able to work with the Planning, Migration Readiness or Technical Planning Authority functions to define migration approaches and identify and address technical challenges.
 
There is a requirement to support UK out of hours and weekend migration work.
 
 Responsibilities

·        Leverage previous experience, promote best practices and make improvements to existing methodologies.

·        Advanced administrative experience across a range of UNIX operating systems; RedHat Linux, Solaris and AIX

·        Knowledge of appropriate storage and converged infrastructure host software; Solutions Enabler, PowerPath, Veritas volume manager and cluster software, EMC Grabs

·        Experience using different migration technologies for larger data centres

·        Host discovery and investigation; data collection and analysis for O/S and application configuration, compatibility with SAN and Converged Infrastructure components

·        Application and software installation, configuration and trouble shooting

·        Creating technical runbooks and sequence of events and inputting technical details into change management processes

·        Available for extensive weekend and out of hours migration work

·        Experience of working on a large infrastructure programme

·        Ideally has experience of Host Scripting and Scheduling

·        Other Host Operating Systems Experience
