Who will you be working with?


Wabtec’s Digital Intelligence Signaling & Systems Project Management team is recognized as an industry leader in the successful delivery of complex integrated system projects, involving signaling, train control, communications, and back-office solutions with a strong focus on project execution, project management, schedule adherence and customer satisfaction.  As a Systems Technical Manager you will be an on-site Wabtec representative, supporting the efforts to implement Positive Train Control (PTC) systems on the Boké Railway. The PTC Technical System Manager will support the efforts of system implementation and carry out the following primary duties. 


How will you make a difference?


As a member of Wabtec’s Digital Intelligence Signaling & Systems group, you will play a key role in the execution and delivery of our System Project business. Act as the primary technical interface between various Wabtec technical teams, including the Project Management Organization, onboard installation, signaling, communications, back office, and system integration as necessary. You will develop product knowledge required to appropriately implement, test, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot the hardware and software components of a PTC system. Including but not limited to: Wayside, Communications, Onboard (Interoperable Electronic Train Management System (I-ETMS)), Independent Validation Office Controller (IVOC), and Train Management Dispatch System (TMDS). 


In this role you will develop knowledge of customer locomotives adequately, in order to assist in leading troubleshooting and maintenance procedures. Assist in maintaining and configuring IT equipment (i.e. routers, servers, etc.). Provide leadership and guidance to installation crews, to ensure accuracy of installations (understanding installation designs, proper installation techniques and processes, and safety) throughout the installation period, and maintain the installation schedule.


The Systems Technical Manager will prepare and provide technical training assistance to company field service and customer personnel which will include preparing material and conducting Positive Train Control focusing on the introduction, testing and maintenance of the subject system. Work with on-site Customer resources and crews, to ensure adherence to standards of quality and workmanship on installations. Support training programs for employees.


This role will also be the direct interface with the customer and provide training to their personnel. Assist with or perform installation validation test procedure. Assist Customer installation crews with troubleshooting installation issues, as necessary and communicate technical and operational details to stakeholders in PTC systems with both customer and Wabtec


Desired Skills and Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in Project Management, Engineering/Civil or related field experience
  • Experience in railway industry (Signals, Communications, Operations, Engineering, etc.)
  • Familiarity/proficiency using MS Word, Project, Excel, Outlook, MicroStation and/or similar office applications.
  • Experience with project planning/management systems/tools, scheduling, budget monitoring, and task execution.
  • Excellent communication skills required (verbal and written).
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees/management to promote good workflow
  • Ability to effectively interact with external Departments, Funding/Regulatory Agencies, Vendors and Customer/s to foster confidence in the services being provided.

Working Conditions: Challenging


  • Long hours working outdoors and exposed to the variable environmental weather conditions (dry seasons, heavy rainy seasons with humidity hot & sunny days, etc.).
  • Especially when need to move up and down the line to address any issues or concerns that arise.  
  • Experience occasional power and internet outages
  • Road can be challenging to travel, especially during rainy season
  • Living conditions and office work will be in air conditioned buildings
