Senior Database Admin
Job Description
Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL, Oracle, and MySQL databases. Monitor database performance and ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security. Implement and maintain database security (roles, privileges, etc.). Perform database tuning and optimization. Plan and implement backup and recovery strategies. Ensure data integrity and manage database replication. Design and implement database schemas, tables, and objects to support business requirements. Collaborate with development teams to design and optimize database queries, stored procedures, and indexing. Provide guidance on database design to ensure scalability, performance, and reliability. Monitor and optimize database performance using tools like pgAdmin, Oracle Enterprise Manager, and MySQL Workbench. Identify and resolve bottlenecks in database operations. Analyze and resolve complex database issues (locking, deadlocking, replication conflicts, etc.) Implement security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with industry regulations. Monitor and audit database activity to ensure compliance with security policies. Develop and maintain database documentation and standard operating procedures. Automate routine database tasks using scripts (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell). Develop and maintain automation tools for database provisioning, backup, and monitoring. Develop and implement disaster recovery plans to ensure data availability and integrity in the event of a failure. Test and validate backup and recovery procedures regularly. Work closely with the development and operations teams to support application deployment and performance tuning. Provide database support and troubleshooting to ensure minimal downtime and quick resolution of issues. Mentor junior DBAs and provide technical leadership within the team.
Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator Advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL, Oracle, and MySQL database administration. Strong experience with database performance tuning, query optimization, and index management. Experience with backup and recovery strategies, including RMAN for Oracle and pg\_dump for PostgreSQL. Proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, and scripting languages like Python, Bash, and PowerShell. Understanding of database security, encryption, and auditing.
