United Parcel Service (UPS) was founded on August 28, 1907, by James E. Casey and Claude Ryan in Seattle, Washington. Initially starting as the American Messenger Company with a $100 loan, UPS began as a small messenger service, operating on foot and bicycle. Over the years, UPS expanded its reach, introducing motorized delivery in 1913 and rebranding as Merchants Parcel Delivery. In 1919, UPS extended beyond Seattle, renamed itself United Parcel Service, and adopted its now-iconic brown delivery trucks. Through the decades, UPS became a trailblazer in package delivery, offering common carrier services, air delivery (in 1953), and expanding across the U.S. and globally. As of today, UPS operates in over 220 countries, with a strong commitment to innovation in automation, AI, and sustainable delivery solutions.
