Runbook SME is responsible for collecting, creating, testing, and governing complex task activities such as DR activities (activation, dry test, Drill, etc...), application migration activities, DC modernization, etc…, into a single document (runbook) that contains all the environment details, and contacts’ information, alongside the required activities to achieve such a complex task.
Role and Responsibilities:
· This role is achieved through four stages:
o Data collection and interviews
• Acquire the acceptance criteria from Business owners, managers, or users
• Validate the acceptance criteria with Application teams and other technical teams as required.
• Collect and document contact list
• Applications details
· App Owner
· App SME
· DB SME
· Application to server mapping
• Storage, SAN, NAS, RDMs,
• Application Dependencies
• Application DR capabilities
• RTO and RPO
o Runbook creation
• Follow Up with all technical SMEs to ensure all technical details are collected.
• Organize technical steps in a logical order.
• Assign a suitable time for each activity.
• Ensure the total activities duration within the agreed event’s window.
• Discuss time plans with different stakeholders to avoid conflicts between activities.
• Create dashboard(s) for activities follow up.
o Runbook testing
• Run dry-run workshops to ensure all activities are collected and ordered
• Organize and conduct tabletop exercise(s)
o Governance
• Update Runbook actual time during activity.
• Interface with different technical teams to ensure runbook steps are executed as planned.
• Share activity progress with stakeholders through multiple channels (dashboards, status emails collaboration utilities).
• Collect and present lessons learned
