Job Description

JOB TITLE: MHPSS Officer
TEAM/PROGRAMME: Program/ Operation. EKN project.. LOCATION: Aswan
GRADE: 4  TYPE OF CONTRACT: One Year

CHILD SAFEGUARDING: (select only one)


Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.



ROLE PURPOSE:


The MHPSS Officer will be responsible for coordinating and implementing education interventions related to capacity building in safeguarding (SG) and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) within Community Learning Schools in Aswan. The officer will lead the design, coordination, and delivery of training programs aimed at strengthening the capabilities social workers, and psychologists. This role also includes providing technical, financial, and administrative support for MHPSS activities in the supported schools. 



 SCOPE OF ROLE:


Reports to: Project Manager,


Staff directly reporting to this post: 2 Psychologists


FIELD TRAVEL: The project officer is expected to spend at least 70% of his/ her time at the field sites



KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:


 Project Planning and Implementation:


• Lead the implementation of MHPSS interventions focused on safeguarding within Community Learning Schools in Aswan.


• Assess the training needs of teachers, school management, social workers, and psychologists to inform the development of relevant SG and MHPSS capacity-building programs.


• Plan, develop, and deliver SG and MHPSS training sessions tailored to the specific needs of school staff, ensuring content is relevant and actionable.


• Ensure the integration of CP and MHPSS principles into the broader educational framework within the targeted schools.


• Provide expert advice and technical guidance on safeguarding and MHPSS to school staff and other stakeholders.


• Develop monthly work plans in line with the overall project plan.


• Ensure project resources are utilized on time, that implementation moves forward according to plans, and that issues are resolved promptly. 


• Prepare scopes of work and ensure that recommendations are followed up.


• Work closely with the Quality and Communications Officer to provide projects’ communication and documentation, including stories, achievements, and lessons learned during implementation of the project. 


• Planning meetings, workshops, trainings, and other activities as needed. 


• Prepare logistics and administrative arrangements for activities including training workshops, meetings, and other activities. 


• Ensure Child Safeguarding standards are understood and met in liaison with the Child Safeguarding focal point.


• Provide MEAL with required data and documentation for interventions in line with MEAL regulations.



Budget and Grant Management and Compliance


• Ensure expenditures are within budgetary limit and follow SCI’s and donor policies. 


Staff Management and Development


• Ensure appropriate community staffing within the projects by monitoring the hiring criteria.


• Ensure that all staff understand and can perform their responsibilities. 


Utilize the Performance Management System, define expectations of staff members, develop work plans and improvement plans as needed, and provide technical support for staff development.


Reporting:


• Monitor the project’s outputs on regular basis using SCI monitoring tools.


• Draft quality monthly reports.


• Develop and properly document capacity building materials.


• Compile concise quantitative and qualitative reports, case studies, etc. on a monthly, and quarterly basis. 


• Regularly compile and share lessons learnt and best practices.


• Highlight general protection issues present in community to the project manager to take the proper action.


• Keep timely record of financial progress reports.


• Ensure that ongoing program monitoring/learning feeds into alterations into program design.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE


• Bachelor’s degree Psychology or related in development field. 


• Experience in child protection and MHPSS program operations.


• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in development/humanitarian aid; previous experience in Psychosocial support field.


• At least 3-5 years of field experience, with proved experience in training, coaching, and capacity building in MHPSS is required and preferably in child protection & child rights.


• Previous knowledge, training or experience in implementing SCI Common Approaches is as asset.


• Good understanding of rural development needs and challenges. • Good command in English (verbal and written)


• Commitment to Save the Children values.


• Familiarity with national child protection mechanisms.
