Overview
Based in Cairo, Egypt and reporting to the Manager Global Trade Compliance AMET region (Africa, Middle East & Turkey), in this role you will support with the implementation of Global Trade & Dangerous Goods Compliance including Legal and Risk mitigation requirements, insuring the standardization, education, and system setup.
You will be also driving and implementing the business operational and tactical projects from GTC POV, being the SME for GTC in North Africa & Middle East. You will influence programs to support a strong regional supply chain, including opportunities setup and risk mitigation. You will be responsible for audit system, documents retention, connect with brokers, customs offices, conformity service providers, and governmental entities within North Africa & Middle East
Responsibilities
Oversee the Global Trade Compliance function within North Africa & Middle East Regions, in addition to Pakistan & Turkey.
Be the SME on trade regulations, implementation of business processes, tariff interpretation and commodity classification, customs valuation and clearance challenges, brokerage management, import and export controls, free trade agreement qualification, country of origin determination, and supply chain security programs, licensing, documentation, and reporting.
Active participation in the regular forums, project calls and connects, to maintain team’s connection activities.
Ensure cross-functional teams’ understanding of and adherence to imports & exports regulations, and that company trade-related policies and procedures are being followed; monitor trade processes, audit, report, and implement corrective action.
Lead the execution of Trade Compliance projects, as required.
Monitor, analyze and communicate significant changes in customs legislation, international trade operations, new trade agreements and other trade-related programs that may impact the business.
Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk along with corrective actions.
Identify potential business opportunities, cost savings, and cost avoidance, and liaise with cross-functional teams for implementation and to quantify the potential saving or size of opportunity.
Manage Export Subsidy Program in Egypt.
Assist in augmenting an effective compliance training program, including appropriate introductory training for new employees as well as ongoing training for all relevant employees.
Represent and respond to inquiries from Customs and other government agencies related to imports & exports.
Collaborate with other functions for all related import/export matters to ensure compliance.
Drive efficiencies and adherence to regulations to minimize risk to the organization.
Lead trade compliance solutions.
Conduct & support global and regional trade audit strategies, risk assessments and oversee corrective action implementation plans.
Analyze and develop compliant practices and processes; measure performance through brokerage reporting and/or monthly audit KPIs.
Participate in development of techniques on supply chain initiatives to ensure proper/advantageous structuring of regional transactions.
Work directly with brokers, being the focal point between the company and brokers / government / customs agencies / and conformity agencies from operational and tactical level, monitor their performance precisely.
Implement a structural dialogue with external agencies to get regular updates on regulatory / customs changes and initiate external networking.
Lobby with local government, and customs on trade related matters.
Lead the process standardization & SOP creation for the region to collaborate and get the full use of regional FTAs.
Lead Certificate of conformity setup in the region.
Ensure development of Perfect Customs Entry for all countries in the region
Lead and implement the proof of origins availability, and to insure the readiness for customs audits.
Participate and lead the DG implementation in the region, being the SME for DG compliance to the business. Spread awareness within the cross functional teams and participate in the necessary Audits to ensure compliance and master data setup.
Own and update trade master data & DG compliance on SAP / systems
Experience you’ll bring:
University degree in related field (Business Administration, International Trade, Economics or Law)
Minimum 5 years of experience in similar Global Trade Compliance role preferably in Egyptian, Saudi Arabian, UAE, North African countries. Turkey is a plus. Past and current experience in Law firms, FMCG, Chemical or big 4 Consultancy Companies area considered competitive advantage. Past roles in Logistics, Transportation, Import/Export will be also considered.
Arabic and English fluent speaker (verbal and written communication), Turkish is considered a competitive advantage.
Strong knowledge of customs regulations in multiple countries within the Middle East and African regions including knowledge of customs valuation, classification under Harmonized Tariff schedule, Preferential Trade Agreements, and Supply Chain Security Systems.
Experience with dangerous goods compliance will be considered a competitive advantage (DG trainings such as IMDG, IATA, or ADR for EU)
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and SAP
Legal eligibility to work in Egypt.

Typical working hours apply. Extra working hours is required, if there is an urgent governmental related audit, essential project, or any other business urgency.
Traveling is not more than 20% of the time.
