Job Description

Role Purpose

The Backend Team Leader will be responsible for leading a team of backend developers in designing, developing, and maintaining server-side logic and infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in backend technologies, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.
 




Who you are

    Team Leadership:
•    Lead, mentor, and manage a team of backend developers, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to succeed.
•    Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and provide constructive feedback to team members.
•    Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture, encouraging innovation and continuous improvement.



    Technical Oversight:
•    Oversee the architecture, design, and implementation of backend systems, ensuring they are scalable, maintainable, and secure.
•    Collaborate with the frontend team, DevOps, business parties and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of backend services.
•    Review and approve code, ensuring adherence to coding standards, best practices, and company guidelines.
•    Identify and mitigate technical risks and provide solutions to complex technical challenges.



    Project Management:
•    Work closely with product managers and other stakeholders to define project requirements, timelines, and deliverables.
•    Allocate resources and prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines and goals.
•    Monitor project progress, identify potential bottlenecks, and implement solutions to ensure timely delivery.



    Technical Innovation:
•    Stay updated with the latest backend technologies, tools, and trends, and incorporate them into the team's workflow where appropriate.
•    Lead the team in adopting new technologies and methodologies to improve system performance and developer productivity.
•    Drive the continuous improvement of backend processes, tools, and systems.



    Collaboration and Communication:
•    Collaborate with other teams, including frontend, DevOps, and QA, to ensure the successful delivery of end-to-end solutions.
•    Communicate project status, challenges, and successes to stakeholders, including senior management.
•    Act as a technical point of contact for the backend team, providing guidance and support on complex issues.




Competencies and Qualifications

Qualifications:
•    Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
•    10+ years of experience in backend development, with a strong understanding of server-side technologies, databases, and APIs.
•    2+ years of experience in a leadership or management role within a software development team.
•    Proficiency in backend programming languages such as Java, Python, Node.js, etc.
•    Strong understanding of database management systems, both relational (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB, Redis).
•    Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., OpenShift, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
•    Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically about complex technical challenges.
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.


Preferred Qualifications:
•    Experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems.
•    Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
•    Familiarity with frontend technologies and how they interact with backend systems.
•    Previous experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
