Job Description Governorate Coordinator

Organizational Setting



The main aim of the Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO’s) Representation in Egypt, which is headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist the Government of Egypt to develop policies, programmes and projects to improve food security and nutrition, promote sustainable agricultural development, reduce rural poverty, develop inclusive agri-food systems and strengthen livelihood resilience – in line with the Organization’s Strategic Objectives and United Nations’ global and Government of Egypt’s national Sustainable Development Goals.
FAO is planning to implement a project titled “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Agricultural Biodiversity for Enhancing the Adaptive Capacity of Vulnerable Rural Communities in Old and New Lands of Upper and Lower Egypt”. The main aim of the project is to sustainably enhance the adaptive capacity of smallholder men and women farmers and landless and unemployed or seasonally working rural women, youth and men with particular vulnerability to climate impacts on agriculture. It will also, through the development and adoption of innovative and improved climate-smart agriculture (CSA) and local variety date palm production techniques, strengthening of concerned commodity value chains and establishment of related micro and small agri-food enterprises, sustainably improve agricultural productivity and, in turn, increase household incomes and create employment.
The position is located in three project sites namely Kafr El-Sheikh, Beheira and Aswan.

Reporting Lines



Under the overall supervision of FAOR-EGY, the direct supervision of the project Manager, the technical supervision of the Climate Change Officer RNE, and in close collaboration with the FAO country office and project personnel, as well as Government counterparts and all stakeholders.

Technical Focus



The Governorate Coordinator will be responsible for providing coordination of field activities related to the project, as well as monitoring, evaluation and timely reporting to project manager of any constraint with his suggestion to resolve field problems.

Tasks and responsibilities



The Governorate Coordinator will work closely with project beneficiaries, government agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure the project's objectives are met, he will be responsible for performing the following tasks:
• Coordinate and follow up all planned project activities implemented and monitored at the Governorate level;
• Participate and facilitate in the action plan and contribute to the preparation of the procurement plan at the governorate level;
• Facilitate the organization of training sessions and workshops for project beneficiaries;
• Coordinate with local government agencies, research stations, as well as civil society and private sector at the governorate level and other stakeholders to ensure the project is implemented efficiently and effectively.
• In close coordination with the Project Manager keep track and follow up with Service Providers on the LOAs, budget planning disbursements and revisions when necessary.
• Provide regular feedback to the project management team on project progress.
• Assist in the development and implementation of project monitoring and evaluation plans.
• Assist in the timely and successful completion of procurement activities and the relevant logistics;
• Coordinate Synergy with other similar projects for integration at the Government level especially in the areas of agricultural development and women empowerment.
• Support the project management team in developing and implementing strategies to increase project impact and sustainability.
• Prepare regular project reports and briefs on government field activities and ensure timely dissemination of information to the concerned partners at the government level.
• Perform other duties as needed.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING



Minimum Requirements
• A bachelor's degree in agriculture, agribusiness, or a related field
• At least 7 years of experience in agricultural development, preferably in a field-based role
• Working knowledge in the English and Arabic languages
• National of Egypt
