What are my responsibilities?


  • Manage compliance with ENR safety regulations and implement safety policies tailored to the railway environment, especially considering the high risks of working near active tracks. 
  • Enforce rules for working near tracks, ensuring workers maintain a safe distance from moving trains or other railway equipment. This includes creating safety plans for working within a certain distance of tracks.
  • Work closely with the maintenance team to ensure all equipment used on site meets safety standards, and that appropriate procedures, such as lockout/tagout or equipment inspections, are followed before work begins.
  • Conduct job briefings and risk assessments to evaluate potential hazards specific to maintenance tasks, ensuring control measures are in place before starting work.
  • Investigate accidents or near-misses to determine causes and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Provide ongoing safety training for the maintenance team, ensuring they are well-versed in safe practices related to working near active rail lines, handling hazardous materials, and energized equipment.
  • Facilitate safety meetings and drills, such as emergency evacuation exercises, to ensure preparedness for various types of emergencies.

What do I need to qualify for this job?


  • Bachelor’s degree in science (Chemistry, Physics, or other relevant discipline).
  • 3-5 years of experience in occupational health and safety and it is preferable to have experience in general industry (transportation and railway sector is preferable).
  • Technical knowledge of health and safety management systems, emergency management, health, and safety risk management, HSE auditing, HSE regulations standards and guidelines, accident reporting and investigation, good Knowledge of using dashboards and incident reporting platforms, and permit-to-work system.
  • Certified ISO45001 and NEBOSH IGC is highly preferable.
  • Fluency in English & Arabic.
  • Problem-solving techniques, excellent computer skills including Office packages such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, good verbal and written communication skills, good organizational and planning skills, good negotiating skills, Presentation, negotiation, and Conflict-resolving skills.
