Under the leadership of the International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC), NARC is contributing to the

development of a global strategy to secure sustainable populations of the Asian Houbara Bustard (Chlamydotis

macqueenii) throughout Middle-East and Central Asia, aiming at reconciling the tradition of Arab falconry with a

sustainable use of natural resources.

The main actions to achieve this objective are:

- Conservation and management of existing Houbara populations and their habitat

- Implementation of hunting regulation and eradication of poaching and illegal trade

- Conservation breeding to preserve genetic diversity, and re-introduce or re-enforce populations into the wild

With an increasing number of birds produced in captivity at NARC, the number of birds to be released and the size

of the population to monitor in UAE will also increase in the coming years. ...Show less
